| Local Sportsman's Warehouse has an Auto Ordnance 1911 that I'm eyeing. Very basic gun, crappy sights, but it feels pretty good. Nice and tight fit, not gritty like a lot of the GI style guns I've handled. I'm looking for a 1911 I can shoot (obviously), but also one I can disassemble without risk, unlike a certain Kimber Custom 2. I'd like to build a 1911 or 2 eventually, and figure a cheap(ish) basic 1911 that I could break down over and over would be a good thing. Sportsman's is asking $520 for it. Thoughts? |

Bit high for an AO - get a springer GI model for that price. This. AO is mediocre at best, IMO. Why do you say that have you owned one or did someone else tell you that? After owning one of their POS, I'd NEVER recommend a AO. Nothing but troubles with it, cheapass parts, specs are "iffy" at best. For about the same you can get a FAR better 1911 in a SA. Might have to replace one or two parts [extractor and recoil spring] but the basic gun is pretty solid. |

Why do you say that have you owned one or did someone else tell you that? Neither. My cousin owns one & I have shot his from time to time. In fact, I have also read/heard that AO QC has declined a bit since Kahr bought them out, but I didn't mention that as I haven't shot a new one. *I* take what others tell me about a gun with a grain of salt, never mind passing it along as gospel if in fact *I* have no personal experience with Brand X gun. |

I have to agree with bobbyjack. My AO, bought NIB in the late 80s, has been 100% after replacing the factory mag with 47Ds and polishing the feed ramp. Neither of these constitute any thing out of the norm for a typical 1911. It's my house gun. I trust my family's lives to it.
YMMV |
