Some of you may remember that I had a damascus slide on order and finally found a pistol smith in Omaha to build it for me.  The slide mfgr. had some stock on hand and would do most of the cuts for me.  The guy on the phone said a couple weeks.  That time frame would put it here a little before Christmas.  Christmas came and went.  At four weeks I called...Yep, it's done, right here on my desk.  Just need to acid etch it and drop it in the mail.  I'll do it today and drop it off at the post office tomorrow.  Another week goes by, still no slide.  I call again.  Exact story, on his desk, needs to acid etch and he'll drop it in the mail.  Week goes by, still no slide.  (Anyone here beside me seeing a pattern developing?)  Same story.  Nother week goes by.  I call, you guessed it....same exact story.  I tell the guy, you've been telling me this for three weeks.  Send it or cancel it.  The slide was nearly $900 by itself.  Somewhere around week 4 I also ordered a frame.  So finally, 7 weeks from the day of order, exactly 5 weeks late, I get the slide.  It looks gorgeous.  Wait.........WTF?  It says 40/10MM.  I ordered a 45.  Call them back, now I've called on my dime about 6 times altogether, tell them it's the wrong caliber.  They check, yep you got a 40 and ordered a 45.  Send it back.  Sorry but the 45 blanks are maybe 6 months out.  I tell them to cancel everything.

Unbelievable.  I'm from the old school.  My word is gold.  I won't tell you something just to stroke you.  I wonder how this company stays in business?  It all works out.  They got their slide back, I get to keep my $1200+.  I won't start a name bashing contest.  The company may be great, maybe it's just the guy I delt with.

Thanks for letting me vent.

An unfortunate ending to your attempts to purchase the parts you wanted, but I'd hardly rate it as a 'disaster'.

That really sucks to hear. I wanted to get a slide from Caspian for a new build. And yeah they are the only people who have the cool Damascus slides. I guess it depends how bad you want the slide and how much BS you will put up with.

I think I would have just built myself a 10mm Damascus 1911.

A disaster would be loosing the $1200 AND being out the part you wanted.  I know it's frustrating, but it was just poor customer service.  After two or three weeks of patience I start to loose it too, that's when I try to take my issues higher up the food chain.  Sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't.

Welcome to my world.

Ever wonder why your pistolsmith is late on a completion date?
Or in a bad mood?
The industry is full of incompetent service and out of spec parts.
You can either learn to live with it, or find a different area of interest.

Isn't that the truth.

No, that would be a felony.

I think I would have just built myself a 10mm Damascus 1911.

Don't want a 10,  the total finished cost of the gun would be in the neighborhood of $3000.  Really didn't want to invest that kind of money on a caliber I didn't want.

This was more of rant than anything else.  Poor customer service seems to be the standard anymore.  Tellem what they want to hear and I'll do whatever I damn well please.  Seems some of the members here rank that as OK.  I don't.  Probably the generation gap thing.  When I was young, I remember a sermon the pastor taught.  In it he stated: You go to hell for lying, same as you do for stealing.  Guess that's why I've always tried to be honest in my day to day life.  And treat others like I'd like to be treated.  (The Golden Rule)  Hell, I'd almost bet if you ask some of the young people today what the "Golden Rule" is, they'd tell you it's probably some unlockable achievement in a video game.

Here I am ranting again.

Customer service for the most part sucks lately.  When I get good service I call the person/business and thank them.
Same goes if I get crappy service.

Rant away.  Just glad you did not loose the bucks.
