I want to build a copy of the Colt Commanding Officers Model which is a commander frame and officers slide. I have large hands and the grip of an officers model is too small, but I want the officers length for concealed carry purposes. Would this need major modification to the frame and slide or would it be basic parts fitting like a standard build?

Any thoughts would appreciated.

This is a build I have been thinking about for awhile, I should have asked if fitting a officers slide to a commander frame is something that can be done in a home workshop with basic shop tools? What sort of problems should I expect in a build of this type?

Thank you for your replies and your patients.

You might want to look at at the Wilson Professional model. Or contacting a reputable Gun Smith and describe what your looking for. Chances are a re-profiled/contoured grip with a grip safety that puts the gun as high and as deep in your hands is in order.  Additionally, some of the Compact combinations from Les Baer are woth considering too.

Here is my CCO built by a retired USMC armorer. Commander slide over an Officers frame. The build sheet is just a bit long for here but she will shoot groups under an inch all day long. If you want specifics e-mail me at [email protected]

While not always easy to find Colt has produced several variations of 1911 in the configuration you've inquired about. Below are two examples. Click the pic's.

Tank Officers

Commanding Officers

ETA: I believe both Caspian and Fusion will mate one of their commander size frames to an Officers size slide.

Would be no harder than building any 1911 in a home workshop with basic shop tools. Check the How too section of the 1911 F A Q & LINKS  and Gaspains thread.

Thanks for the advise, I guess I'll start looking for a used frame.
