I just picked up a loaded champ in stainless and am planning on changing out the MSH already to get rid of the lock.  What other suggestions besides the guide rod and which do you prefer to replace it with and why?

I have the lightweight model.

First thing I did was install a shorter trigger, and different grips (I've got tiny hands)

As for the guide rod, I suggest leaving it original.  I considered replacing it for quite a while, but the original one is better than any of the other options.
Because of the dual spring setup, they last a lot longer than a single spring setup.  Also, because there's no barrel bushing it really narrows your options for what's out there.

Its already got night sites on it ...

I was thinking about swapping the MSH with a Ed Brown with mag well funnel.

It is your pistol, but IMO, a mag funnel that extends the grip even further has no place on what otherwise is a great carry gun. If it is done like NightHawk does there CCO or whatever they call their carry gun with the integrated magwell that winds up being like a full size grip, I see no problem with it. It just makes it that much harder to conceal, and a 4" barrel/slide combination is not a first choice for competition which is where I think the mag wells are most useful. This is just my past experiences and opinions though, take it for what it costs you.

I have the LW Champion Loaded, and did a trigger job, polished the ramp a little to make it slicker without changing the angle, staked the grip screw bushings, and checked the fit of the slide/frame which was good. Then I put about 300rds through it as fast as I could without cleaning. It survived with no failures, and is now my first choice for a carry gun. I love it.

That is the MSH and mag funnel that I was thinking about

I dont think that it will add any noticeable lebgth to the grip or hinder me hiding it in any way.  But I could be wrong.

Have you shot it yet?  The Champ is a good gun; a nice compromise between size and reliability.  If it runs why the hurry to mod it all up?

I havent got to shoot it yet.  And the only reason I want to change things is because Id like to do away with the ILS and I figure if I am going to change the MSH I might as well upgrade to something that might improve its form and function.  Thats why I would like to get rid of the 2 piece guide rod I dont like the idea that I have to have a special tool to dissasemble the pistol.

I am going to change the grips out as well for something a little more matching of the stainless instead of the wood I want a set of the VZ Operators in Black Desert Sand.

Hey, congrats on the purchase.  I made one this week too!  Can't wait to shoot it!

You don't have to change the MSH to get rid of the ILS.  Just change the insides.

I wouldn't change the guide rod either. The dual spring rods last a lot longer than anything you are going to find to swap it with. I am not sure what is in it, but if it is the same as my Champion, I don't HAVE to use any special tools for dissassembly, mine didn't even come with a tool, so I made one to do the same thing that the factory tool does before I ever even saw one. It just makes it a little bit easier.
