Does anyone know which magwell setup works best with a LW Springfield Operator??  I want to add one and I was looking at the Ed Brown one.  Any help would be great.

Smith & Alex.  Only true one piece with mainspring.  If you got a Springer it's a good way to kill 2 birds with one stone.

S&A as well.  Without claiming significance, I'll point out that the S&A has an open front to facilitate manual removal of reticent magazines.  And it looks good.  And you can choose arched and flat main spring housings while you're at it.

Ed Brown here. You can take it off easily if needed.

I've got a S&A on my TRP Operator, and an Ed Brown on my Kimber CCW piece.

I think I'd prefer the S&A only because it's a one-piece-design. The screw on the Ed Brown came loose on me. Easy enough fix with some loctite, but still.

The last S&A I bought, looked like cheap galvanized steel. Also the checkering looked like it had come from a mold, rather than a sleeker machined look. I promptly sent it back to brownells.

Yes!

Are you serious that S&A is the only option?  There are lots of mag wells out there that are just as good or better.

Heinie

(ok maybe I am not being as serious this time)

There are no magwells on the market in competition with the S&A that are better. The Chen  and Heinie magwells require frame cutting and welding, not something a lot of folks want or desire. The competing magwells are multi-piece, another undesirable feature to many, myself included.

"in competition", true.  But IMO the Heinie and Chen are WAY better.

I would be tempted to agree with you, but many folks, myself included, dont care to have the frame cut for a magwell, when the S&A does everything these do.

The Heinie well is designed for concealed carry. The whole point is that the pistol isn't longer or wider, but still has a gaping hole on the bottom.

Yep.  IMO the only 1911 that should have a "add on" magwell is a "gaming gun".  Otherwise, I'd rather opt for no magwell.  If I had to have one on a carry gun, it would be either the Heinie or Chen

Coincidentally enough, the Heinie well is also SSC legal.

That looks like a toilet bowl attached to a 1911.

Went with a Smith and Alexander.  SHould get it in a couple of days.  I just wanted to get rid of that ILS system or whatever it's called on the SA.

Take a look at the Kimber. The opening is much larger than a Smith & Alexander and the magwell is removeable if desired. Less blending required than with an S&A. Although the Tech-well is a novelty in USPSA shooting, in the real world I would be concerned with it's "hard-knock" capability. Being attached by tabs inserted into slots in aluminum grips isn't the most reliable design.
