I'm building a 9mm full size (5 inch) 1911.
Do you guys think this needs a ramped barrel or barrel with no ramp (GI style). Please share your opinion. |

I've heard and read that ramped barrels are the way to go with 1911 9mm.
I have two 9mm 1911 Colts that I fit new barrels on with the standard barrels and never have had one of them choke on anything. But I do mess with any new 9mm mag to make sure that the mag will feed right with both of my 9mm 1911's. |

I posted this on the other forum, which is acting a little weird lately:
I had a 9mm government built in 2003. For that project, I talked to about 8 smiths (a mix of well known, up and coming at the time, Garthwaite, etc.). There was really no consensus - they were evenly divided as to whether it was important, and which way to go. The gun is ramped, works perfectly, and feeds all ammunition across the entire range of OAL's. |
