now to elaborate. The Delta Elites started cracking frames at this location. so Colt started milling all of their frames in this manner and did so for several years. On the new "retro" guns Colt went back to the traditional shape because folks complained. Now go clean that frame, looks awful. |
| I will have to go look at mine again but from what I think I remember is it's a straight cut out with the corners being completely 90 degree square. Why didn't they leave a tiny radius in the corners for strength and crack resistance ? I have worked as a machinist for many years. Mostly conventional equipment. Job shops ... I guess it is a non issue with them. But I always study how things are machined. Can't help it.... Cheers WarDawg |

I don't know why Colt is doing this to their .45 frames but that was originally a mod to my Delta Elite 10mm to prevent the frame from cracking in that spot. I guess they just continued it as a good business practice. |
