Can you please post some pictures of your Gunner Grips, along with your honest thoughts on their function, and how much you like or dis-like them. Please do not comment/suggest on other brands. I am only interested in Gunners. Thank you and above all Merry Christmas...

the original gunners are terrific grips in my opinion.

the 1st gen strider made gunners fit a bit worse and are wider than the simonich made gunners

I got mine through Simonich (the original) in Black and Green...way better fit and feel than the current one out there.  I use them on my duty gun and carry the gun off duty...not to hard on the skin, but it really is grippy.  Give them a call.

I will echo WRENCH_HEAD.  I have five sets of the orginal Gunners and they are the heat! Sharp, aggressive, fit properly and grippy.  Since then, I have another set of coyote tan that are crap.  The pattern is slightly different, knocked down too much and not nearly as aggressive.

These suck:

OK, nice to know that Strider changed the design, as I was just about to pull the trigger on a Brownells order for a pair. I know Simonich died a few years ago, looks like the site is still up and his wife is still selling them.

Now here's the question, is she producing her own or is she getting her stock from Strider?

Edited to add- are they too aggressive a grip for CC usage? If it snags on and destroys cover garments, I might need to go a different route.

Wow, and these Gunners are all from the same place Simonich? There seems to be a wide variation of textures. I prefer the texture that is shown on Wrench_Heads  picture and Racers (the YoBo Enhanced). So has the current design/texture changed to what Duce has pictured on his Warrior?

I just ordered some at the first of this week.  If they don't look like the old style I'll be sending them back.  I wonder why they would change the design.  I had a set on my Springfield MC Operator and I liked them.  Its sad when you can't get what you want.
I think they must be stupid if they changed the design.  What are those people thinking?  They won't sell many of those.  I guess I'll have to purchase the Night Hawk Copy,  they look like the real deal.  I bet those things are made in China.
Those new ones look nothing like what they have on the Brownells site.

Cheers.

Joe, I guess you ordered from Brownells and not Simonich? I'm curious to see what you get, your review and opinion will be awaited.

Yes I ordered them form Brownells, out of their 1911A1 catalog.  Their picture doesn't look like those, although its a small picture.  I'll take a pic, but I can tell you already by their look, that they are nothing like the old ones.  If I don't get the old style they will leave on the first thing smoking out of town.  I got a modified GI 1911A1 coming next week.  It already has an Ed Brown grip safety, Novak sights, match barrel and an extended Kings strong side safety installed.  I was looking around for a beater GI shooter or a frame for a MEU-SOC or a SOCOM pistol build.  I was feeling guilty about having to cut one up when I came across this one.  It had all the mods already done by a well known gunsmith that I was planing to make.  I was planning on putting the Gunners on the new pistol.  I've been thinking about installing a Kings Ambi thumb safety on it, but I've had problems with ambi safeties before during a serious social occassion and I'm a little shy when it comes to ambi-safeties.

Pretty sure I got these from Simonich (not positive though). Had them around 3 years, I think they're the original. Very aggressive, but I've not found the need to take sand paper to them as some have. Ordered them for this Desert Warrior same day I ordered it. The grips got here first . WRT CC, best to have a T Shirt under them for all day carry. I handle them against the skin for a few hours okay though.

My toy from Brownells arrived today.  Inside the package were the New type Simonich grips.  I'm not happy with them.  Not to put the others down who like the new sytle, but I was expecting the older smaller hole sytle of grip.  These look to be made out of linen micartra.  The older style I had had a more plastic feel an were almost painful to use.  They however were great for shoot with nomex gloves.  I guess that one more thing that is retro. (My wife said that they look like ice cream cones.)

Cheers

I have 3 pair of the original Gunner grips.  Two pair I recently ordered directly from Simonich.  Ordering directly from Simonich is the ONLY way that you are going to get the original design.  Call and speak with them and they will tell you what they have in stock.

Here are some pics of the grips that I just bought direct from Simonich.  The second photo isn't that good, but it gives a better idea of what the pattern is like.

They are aggressive grips, but you can sand them to your liking.  I think that the original Gunners are THE BEST 1911 grips out there for a duty or hard use 1911.  JMO!

Thank you Introoper for the updated info. Simonich is truly the only route.

I agree.  I purchased a pair through Brownells and was very unimpressed.  I was looking for the original golf ball shaped ones and recieved the ones with the oval shapes.  I sold them about one month after getting them.  So I would not buy the oval style ones personally.  They were not as aggressive as I would like.  If I had to have gunner grips I would buy the original kind and leave them alone or sand them to my liking.  VZ grips also makes some aggressive grips, and the company Mitl-tac makes good grips also.

So are the original style no longer being produced? Or do we just need to go with the original to buy them?

The original style are still being produced, but are only available directly through Simonich Knives.
