Please excuse my lack of technically-prudent terminology, but I'm not as knowledgeable on the 1911 as I am on, say, the AR.
At any rate, I was cleaning my pistol the other day, and I noticed that the horizontal part on the left side of the frame, between the safety and the slide stop, has some play in it. It 'wiggles' up and down, and on the inside of the frame, there's a hole that looks like it lines up with that part. Is there supposed to be a screw here? The pistol still functions fine––I put about a hundred rounds through her the other week––but I'd rather not chance anything. |

are you refering to the horizontal tube just above the left grip pannel? got a pic? if i read your post correctly, i think you are refering to the plunger tube; there are 2 spring loaded dentents/plungers (one that puts tension on the slide stop, one one the other end towards the thumb safety) that should be in that horizontal plunger tube http://www.midwayusa.com/ebrowse.exe/browse?TabID=9&Categoryid=16007&categorystring=10636***10560***8806***16006*** check parts #39 and #51 with spring #36 in tube #37 |

Yes, that's the part. Just above the left grip panel. Mine moves up and down, and I suspect that there's a screw or something missing that's supposed to hold it in place. They get loose, my GI does it, I re staked it and it came back after a while... There is no screw, if you tear down the gun and look on the other side, you should see holes with what may look like a rivet, you may beable to use a punch and tighten it up for a while... Brownells has a special vice grip looking tool just for it. I decided to not worry about it my self, it has been loose for over a year now and I have had no further issues. If your gun is under warranty, the maker may fix it free of charge. |
| Thanks. So long as it still functions correctly, I'm happy. But since it is my go-to weapon in case of badness, I really want to be sure bits of it aren't going to come off at an inopportune moment. I'll contact the manufacturer. Push comes to shove, nightstand duties will be delegated to the GP100. No biggie. |
