I have searched and have found nothing substantial, for my b-day, christmas, wedding present i get to build the 1911 i want i am thinking of a nighthawk with a compensator with some other goodies but i know nothing about compensator as in what is good and what isnt and even if there worth it like in the punisher on his 19's they looked bad ass which is a plus but if it just throws off the balance for just looks thats not worth it so plz giv me the 411 so i dont regret this build. And if you have anyother suggestions for a 1911 give your input plz

On a .45 I'd say skip it. If you're building a .38 Super or one of the hot 9's, maybe...

45 is a low pressure round, so there's not much to gain.  Not really done with 45.

You could do a carry comp style.  Same overall length as a government 1911, shorter slide to account for the comp on the end of the barrel.  Usually a single port.

It helps a little on a .45 with hot carry loads.  It will be LOUD though!  All ported barrels are louder.

I'd build it in .40 or even 10mm!

.38 Super or 9mm Major are the only calibers I would consider putting a comp on.  Try EGW or Dawson for the comp.  While you're at it why not build a kickass 2011 and get into shooting open class IPSC?

I run a carry comp on my carry gun and it works well with 185gr +P and I also have one on a 5inch that I use with .45 super

And yes, they are loud as hell

And don't forget that wonderful flash of light our of your comp to momentarily blind you at night.

+1

Spend the $$$ on a NM bbl or a trigger job or both, IMO.
