I just purchased a Kimber pro carry II and went straight from the gun shop to the range.  Fired almost 100 rds through it and was having failure to feed about 3 times per mag.  Sometimes the slide would stay fully open but most would just halfway feed.  A little push from the back with my thumb and back to firing.  Is this something to exspect until I get enough breakin rounds through it?  I bought this thing to carry and right now I don't trust it a bit.

Could be excessive extractor tension.

Could also be wimpy ammo.  What kind of ammo was it, gunshop reloads or carry ammo?

The first 50 rds was some lawman I think.  Then my buddy gave me some reloaded bulk he had and it was stronger.  The last couple mags I shot are the only ones that feed fine so I was hoping it was just breakin.

I recall,,Kimber suggests 2k rds to loosen things up and get it moving slick.
MY experience is about 1000 rds it should run like a raped ape,,and thats about any gun IMHO..

2,000 rounds is utterly retarded (just quoting the messenger, not trying to kill him). Wilson Combat makes a nice, tight pistol and their suggestion is 500 rounds before fieldstripping. It's bad enough that most production companies save money on X% of their pistols by overlooking certain fixes for you, their appointed "last step of QC" to fix on your own. But at @$30/100 of WWB, I wouldn't consider a pistol that required $300 worth of testing ammo to stumble through just to see if I have a real problem before giving it to them. But $600 of reccommended test ammo? IF that is in fact true, I can't see how anybody would knowingly buy one of those pistols.

Kimber suggest that you fire 500 rnds for break-in, I would suggest you get rid of the Kimber mags and pickup either Wilson combat or Tripps.  I have a Ultra Carry and Custom II TLE, both run great.

The recoil spring in the Pro series is underpowered for the 4 inch models.  I put the Wolff Improved XP recoil spring in my new Pro Carry II before even going to the range the first time.  This combined with Wilson Combat magazines = 100% reliability with just under 500 rounds to date.  Kimber needs to adapt the Wolff recoil spring in new production models and include a properly functioning magazine.  These two issues could be addressed rather inexpensively by Kimber and result in a more reputable image.

That being said I do love my Kimber now!

Thanks for the help guys.  The shop I bought it at said 200rds was good for breakin but I wasn't exspecting to have to shoot that much to get it to operate correctly.  All my other auto pistols have shot flawlessly out of the box.

Make sure you clean and lubricate it.

Kimber went to Wolf first to design the XP spring for the 4 in guns. I don't know why they didn't make it to production guns.

Get the XP spring kit (recoil + firing pin spring) And tune your extractor. Gun should run like a champ.

Also if this is your first 1911, they love lube. When I break a 1911 in I lock the slide back add a little CLP to the rails, barrel hood, and first 1/2 inch of the muzzel. Then repeat every 50 rounds for about 300 rounds.

I agree with checking the extractor tension and dumping the Kimber mags as a start.

+1

Try a different mag and then ammo too.
