If your slide has dovetail cuts, and the front sight has a hole in the front of the blade it is pobably for a set pin, that is part of the Novak design.  The intent is to have a hole drilled into the frame, that you can drive a roll pin into through the front sight blade to keep it from ever walking to the side unintentionally.

The rear sight screw will act to apply tension on the sight to keep it from walking also.  A bit of lock-tite on the screw will keep it from backing out.

You don't have to use the pin if you fit the dovetail tight enough.  Go slow in fitting the sight dovetail to the slide dovetail.  Remove a little metal by sanding the bottom of the front sight on a flat surface to ensure that things stay square.  Try it in the dovetail slot.  Sand a little, try again, repeat.

The key is to go slow until things fit, but TIGHT.  Remember it is easy to remove more mtal if you need to, but very hard to put it back if you remove too much.
