You look like Sean Penn. http://entimg.msn.com/i/gal/2004_Oscar_Winners/SeanPenn_300x435.jpg SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! You don't want to give away the fact that crazy Sean is an ARFcom member do you? Nice shooting Sean. |

I tried this for shits and grins. The range where I usually shoot has a large berm just beyond the 200 yard targets. There's a pipe sticking out of the berm with a fairly large (probably 18" x 18") gong on it. I have been able to "walk" a few .45 rounds out of my 1911 onto the gong by observing where the bullets impact.
ETA - I have a Springfield GI with USGI grips very much like the photo above. |

Well, at 100 yards, I line up the sights, but aim for the head, so that I can only see the very top of the silhouette target's head. At 200 yards, I use the Ayoob Stressfire sight picture, and aim so I can only see the target's head. At 300 yards, I put the front sight so I could only see the target's head, then I put the top of the rear blade on the front edge of the ejection port. At 500 yards, same as 300, except the top of the rear blade goes on the back of the ejection port. 400 yards is between the front and back of the ejection port. Anybody follow that? I made the customary MS Paint drawing to illustrate. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seven_sixtwo/Drawings/1911holdover.jpg Awesome tutorial, thanks! |
| I was watching that big Commercial, Personal Defence TV one night,,, and They had Massad Ayoob on... He spoke about long range use and his recommended load for that .45 whoop ass was the 185 +P.. Helps flatten out the rainbow... Kind of expensive for blasting though,,, Good Luck |

Pistols will shoot suprisingly well at long distances.
