I just bought a new Colt Government model 45 in stainless. New production Colt gun is on the mark. I could not be more pleased. I knew it was without the best sights and some of the other trimmings available but it is exactly what I wanted and proved to be just that. I just may have sights installed and have the mag well opening relieved but am in no hurry. It looks to me to be nicely fitted and shoots. |
Not 'too' sharp. It is not finished as nicely as some of the blue guns of yesterday for sure. I think that they do not perform any particular detail work in that regard, on stainless guns that is. Mabie a new Blue gun will be a little kinder. I do not fret the edges on stainless and therefore discounted that in my overall happiness with this new pistol. The last one I bought, an 80 series, I broke the edges myself. I especially like to break the foreward edge on the ejection port. There and the trigger guard, near the front strap. |
| Definitely understandable, and I would be quite content myself to have a somewhat "edgy" example that was fit well and had no real slop to it. I was just surprised at how sharp it was and wondered if that was simply how the SS ones are, seeing how that was the only S70 repro in SS I have ever had a chance to inspect. |

Mine in SS is pretty sharp..sharp enough so that even though I dehorned the hammer (that thing bit almost as bad as an unmolested Sistema), I STILL got a little chunk of skin taken out of me on Saturday, from the rear tangs, right side. I'm considering putting on a buffer wheel on the dremel, picking up some paste, and gently buffing all the edges on the rear side of the frame... The alternative would be to send it out for a total dehorn, but 1) I hate waiting, and all the good smiths seem to be tied up for months, and 2) money is tight... ETA - other than that though, with a Caspian Trik Trigger and an EGW oversized firing pin stop with a gently broken edge...I'm finally at home with it. I didn't even notice I was missing skin until I got home and washed my hands. |
