I bought a Series 70 in the seventies NIB that I had Virgil Tripp
go through, beavertail, BoMar sights, serrate top of slide as well
as trick out the internals. He also welded on a Brown magwell.
I've carried it, shot it for thirty years and it's been reblued three times.
I was considering GunKoting the frame grey. Considering all the other mods,
and thousands sunk in it will that depreciate it or should I just reblue it? It's worth alot more as a customized Colt then an original Series 70.

You said it yourself. It isn't original anymore it is custom. Custom is a value usually worth more to the owner than the future buyer. If you want to Gun-Kote it go for it.

Back then, of course, the thing to do was hard chrome the frame but now
my favorite has become a collector and I didn't know if painting a collector
was cool.

It's not worth nearly as much as you might imagine.  And you'll never recover your investment from the aftermarket work you've had done.

Go ahead and refinish it.

Thanks, I'm gonna carry on and finish this thirty year project.

I can look at pics of an original Mark IV's with it's wood grips and emblem and it takes me back to the good ol' days of IPSC, trying to work construction and pay for
reloading and custom work when the Series 70 was THE gun. I do want to get one more in stock condition and keep it in the back of the safe.
