I have the opportunity to buy a new Springfield longslide for $1,010.00 (this includes all fees and taxes).  It is a stainless piece and the specs are listed here:

www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=17

Is this a standard pistol in that it will take standard 1911 parts?  I am assuming it is.  The only probably would be getting another barrel in case I ever needed another one.  Since the barrel is 6" and 5" barrels are plentiful, I would imagine a replacement barrel would be expensive compared to a 5".  What says the 1911 hive on these matters?

I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks,

Joel

I wore out a barrel on a 70s 1911
I was shooting competion. pin, postal matchs etc and avg'd 500 rds a week for about 10 years..

the barrel still had lands and groove but accuracy wasnt as spot on..I put a new barrel in it and with in a year, had to quit shooting due to a motorcycle wreck..

a year or 2 later I realized the slide was cracked..pulled the barrel and replaced the slide. it was a Kart barrel...

still have the gun, orginal frame, with a Gold Cup slide..

I would worry bout wearing the barrel out unless your gonna shoot comp..

but/
six inch barrels show up fairly regular on the web, shouldnt be a problem getting one as back up..gonna run you 100 to 150.00.

Unless you're going to upgrade to a NM bbl of some sort, like the above poster I wouldn't imagine the average shooter wearing out a 1911 bbl.

Brownells sells 6" 1911 bbls, IIRC?
