Ok, don't bust my Nxts to bad, but I have a Springfield Loaded 1911 and I have the mags that came with it. Everybody tells me to get Wilson Combat mags, Ect. Why won't my OEM mags work ?? What can I do to fix them ??

to clarify, DO your mags work, or are you simply asking why everyone changes em out?

for the most part, the OEM mags i've gotten w/ my SAs tended to work just fine...but hold only 7 rnds

My SA 1911 works great with the factory mags.  I do however use 8rnd mags from Wilson for my carry pc.

When doing shooting, reloading drills, it's nice to have the base pads so you don't dent up the metal as much, and the extra round doesn't hurt either.

I thought "which mags to use" questions were on Thursdays?

IIRC, Springfield OEM mags use a ever-so-slightly tapered feed lip - not tapered to the degree of the so called Colt "hybrid" magazines, which I greatly prefer over Wilsons, but tapered none the less.

If they work well there's no issue using them. If they don't work well, get a different design. It's as simple as that!

I have 2 of the original SA mags that came with my loaded. I added 4 Wilson 47Ds to have 6 loaded mags when I am match shooting. I can detect no difference if the mags. All work properly and have given me no malfunctions.
I run through a lot of ammo shooting plates and bullseye, and practicing for both, so a lot of ammo has gone through all of the mags.
Shoot yours and add more if you want more, but you don't need to replace them. The OEMs are good.

4 Chip Mccormick and 6 USGI mags. I only shoot ball ammo and they all feed perfect so far.

I use CM powermags and shooting star mags and Wilson mags. IMO you can't beat these mags. But with the Wilson mags there is a better feel. The floorplate has a scoop in it and it just seems to scream quality. But all my CM mags have been very reliable to.

The Tripp Research Cobra Mag has a pretty strong following. The have some upgrade kits too.

To "fix' the SA mags is simple. Replace the spring and follower with Wilson Combat parts. Next do the same with the tube and floor plate .

Seriously though, if they work, use them. But when you buy extras, buy one of the higher end mags available for the 1911. Whatever flavor you choose, but go high end.

The mags from SA I believe are metalform.  I have 10 of these and 2 Mecgar and 1 shooting star.  I've shot my Springfield Loaded and Kimber RaptorII using these mags with no problems.

If the stock ones work for you then you have no reason to replace them. Personaly I've been picking up wilson mags as extras. I prefer teh rubber but plate and the extra round they hold.

I like the Chip McCormick Power 10 Mags.
They work great and 10 shots kicks more ass than 7 or 8!
