Is the Springfield MC Operator built to handle +P ammo? I've got one and I was wondering if it would do any damage to the gun if I fired a box of Horady TAP FPD +P?

Should be just fine.

Thanks. The box said only use with +P certified pistols. I wasn't sure if the MC Operator was or not.

Any modern production pistol should be able to fire a box of +P ammo without issues.

It might shorten the service live, let's say if the pistol could be expected to maintain reliability and accuracy for 30k rounds of standard ammo, it might only fire 10k rounds of +P. But I don't think you have a box of 10k rounds.

I don't fire +P ammo in my alloy framed pistols very much, but do so all the time with my steel frame guns.

So you dont think 20 rounds would make a difference at all?

The MC Operator is built like a tank.  +P will not harm it at all.  Our duty rounds are +P and none of our 1911's have any issues with it at all.

Awesome, Thanks!

You might want to consider using a heavier recoil spring with +P loads, but that's your call.

Limited use should be fine, but why beat up your pistol for virtually no benefit.  Use the Federal personal defense HydraShok instead if you really need a hollowpoint.  It is a standard pressure load.  Interestingly enough, when I asked Charlie at Novaks what I should use for a home defense load in the Series 80 they built for me, he suggested American Eagle hardball because you can afford to shoot a lot of it, it always goes bang, it feeds super reliable, and a center of mass hit with hardball will put anybody down.
