So I'm really starting to love the MC operator, I think i'll start loading .45 FMJ 230's  ahead of time, so i'll have a stockpile for range use with this baby.  Now I have it between the MC and the HK45 for my first pistol, but I think the MC operator is what i'm looking for. Now i'm curious, anyone put different grips on it, and pics of what it looks like!

I have always thought Operator's needed gunner grips.

Gunner grips:

VZ Operators next to the Gunners. The feel is very similiar, IMO. Not much to choose from between the two.

I really like the gunner grips and the front-strap checkering on M499's MC Operator.  Recently, I've been thinking about taking off the Pachmayr wrap-around stocks, and sending my MC Operator off to Springfield's custom shop to get the front-strap checkered.  Anyone know how long Springfield takes to do checkering and subsequently refinish the frame?  If I decide to do this, I'll more than likely slap some gunner grips on my pistol.

Thats a Springfield Professional and I recently switched from the Gunner's to Pachmayr's.  I won't be going back.

Hmm....what prompted you to switch to the Pachmayr's?  The wraparounds that come standard on the MC Operator are comfortable, but everyone seems to rave about the gunner grips...

BTW, thanks for clarifying the model, I should have realized that was a Pro (no forward cocking serrations on the slide), guess I didn't look closely enough!  When I glanced at the first pic, I figured that you had an older MC Operator (with the non-slanted rail cut) and refinished the frame in black, along with an after-market magwell.

The rubber of the Pachmayrs is just really comfortable and extremely "grippy".  Despite the aggressive surface of the Gunners, they seem to slip around for me more than the rubber grips.  FWIW, I also felt like I was able to get back on target quicker with the Pachmayrs... maybe because they absorb more recoil, not sure...

Also, I'm not one to complain about the original 20lpi front strap.  In fact I love it and anything less feels cheap to me now...  but I don't think I'm losing any of that grip going to the wrap-arounds.
7/6/2008 6:14:31 PM EDT
[#11]
In fact, I've thought about cutting off the front panel of the Pachmayrs to expose the original front strap checkering.
7/7/2008 1:06:50 AM EDT
[#12]
The absence of checkering on the front strap makes me want to say stick with the pachmayrs. I went with the ugly but functional hogue wraparounds on mine for that very reason.

[#13]
I have had the pachmayr "combat" wrap arounds on two 1911s and I love both of them. The Hogues are too fat for my sausage fingers.

Something I did, or actually Virgil Tripp did per my request, was run a blade
down the fold line on a set of Pachmayrs wrap arounds and remove the
front strap. I get the benefit of the sticky panels plus my fingers can breath
on the 20 lpi front checkering. I always thought wrap arounds looked 'tactical cool'
before that was a term 'specially on a two tone but a full wrap around seems to
squirm during rough handling of drawing and shooting.

The OP asked for pics of a MC Operator with different kinds of grips. Some of us have suggested different kinds of grips for him. Out of the kindness of our hearts, we have posted pictures of the grips we recommended, to give the OP an idea of what they look like. While all of them weren't shown on MC Operators, they were shown on 1911s. I have a feeling the OP will be able to use those pictures to make an informed decision on which grips he/she would like to purchase for his/her MC Operator. Do you understand that?

Minus the pricey "custom" logo, trigger, mag well bevel and hammer (per unit) you have the exact same thing pretty damn close to what we run.   What a surprise.

I have understood all along. It was you that posted that you didn't understand. I don't have pictures of a MC Operator that has the grips I recommended on it, because I don't own a MC Operator. Instead of just posting my grip recommendation, I included a shot of them on my Thunder Ranch Special. I left it up to the OP to find the pic useful or not. If someone doesn't find the picture useful, just move on. There is no need to junk up the thread whining about it.

Now, to get this thread back on track:

At last another MC Operator! Good job, you finally get it. I wonder if it occurred to you that the OP may have already looked through hundreds of 1911's in the pic threads we already have. The point is that he specifically asked for pics of MC Operators, not Thunder Ranch Les Baer's which you dont seem to understand the difference.

The pistol is just a blued steel factory Les Baer TRS with different grips. For some reason the lighting when I took those pictures makes it look different. In person it appears black. Although, sometimes under certain lighting conditions it resembles the first pic.
