So I'm really starting to love the MC operator, I think i'll start loading .45 FMJ 230's ahead of time, so i'll have a stockpile for range use with this baby. Now I have it between the MC and the HK45 for my first pistol, but I think the MC operator is what i'm looking for. Now i'm curious, anyone put different grips on it, and pics of what it looks like!

www.simonichknives.com/gunner.htm I have always thought Operator's needed gunner grips. This one belongs to m499

I really like the gunner grips and the front-strap checkering on M499's MC Operator. Recently, I've been thinking about taking off the Pachmayr wrap-around stocks, and sending my MC Operator off to Springfield's custom shop to get the front-strap checkered. Anyone know how long Springfield takes to do checkering and subsequently refinish the frame? If I decide to do this, I'll more than likely slap some gunner grips on my pistol. |
Hmm....what prompted you to switch to the Pachmayr's? The wraparounds that come standard on the MC Operator are comfortable, but everyone seems to rave about the gunner grips... BTW, thanks for clarifying the model, I should have realized that was a Pro (no forward cocking serrations on the slide), guess I didn't look closely enough! When I glanced at the first pic, I figured that you had an older MC Operator (with the non-slanted rail cut) and refinished the frame in black, along with an after-market magwell. |
The rubber of the Pachmayrs is just really comfortable and extremely "grippy". Despite the aggressive surface of the Gunners, they seem to slip around for me more than the rubber grips. FWIW, I also felt like I was able to get back on target quicker with the Pachmayrs... maybe because they absorb more recoil, not sure... Also, I'm not one to complain about the original 20lpi front strap. In fact I love it and anything less feels cheap to me now... but I don't think I'm losing any of that grip going to the wrap-arounds. |

Something I did, or actually Virgil Tripp did per my request, was run a blade down the fold line on a set of Pachmayrs wrap arounds and remove the front strap. I get the benefit of the sticky panels plus my fingers can breath on the 20 lpi front checkering. I always thought wrap arounds looked 'tactical cool' before that was a term 'specially on a two tone but a full wrap around seems to squirm during rough handling of drawing and shooting. |
DAMN IT! Just as I start wanting an MC Operator, and then, I see this...Time to start saving for a Custom Carry |
Nice. here's mine:

The OP asked for pics of a MC Operator with different kinds of grips. Some of us have suggested different kinds of grips for him. Out of the kindness of our hearts, we have posted pictures of the grips we recommended, to give the OP an idea of what they look like. While all of them weren't shown on MC Operators, they were shown on 1911s. I have a feeling the OP will be able to use those pictures to make an informed decision on which grips he/she would like to purchase for his/her MC Operator. Do you understand that?
|
Catman Do you have any pics of this setup? I'd like to see it. Thanks |
well i was being alittle soured by how my thread was being side tracked with non MC operator stuff, but i did also appreciate the help other members gave with grip recommendations- which were duely noted. you guys are both right. |
You are so kind it melts my heart. But you still don't understand.
|
Minus the pricey "custom" logo, trigger, mag well bevel and hammer (per unit) you have |
At last another MC Operator! Good job, you finally get it. I wonder if it occurred to you that the OP may have already looked through hundreds of 1911's in the pic threads we already have. The point is that he specifically asked for pics of MC Operators, not Thunder Ranch Les Baer's which you dont seem to understand the difference. |
m499 Sorry I didn't get sooner - The guns at the smiths' right now but should be back home next week. I'll ArmorAll the grips take a pic and send it. |
Pics please? |

by we - I meant the royal WE (USMC) I am just a lowly 3rd echelon armorer who is lucky enough to work with a 2112. None in the armory right now, but here are the parts kits that fellow Marines and I are putting together as "unit memorials" You can buy almost all the same parts on the .civ market that the 2112's put into the 1911's. ![]() Notice the pachmyer grips... |
TeJota - Does that Baer's frame have a Titanium Blue shade as in the first pic or an OD Green as it appears in the second? Thnx, Catman |
The pistol is just a blued steel factory Les Baer TRS with different grips. For some reason the lighting when I took those pictures makes it look different. In person it appears black. Although, sometimes under certain lighting conditions it resembles the first pic. |
Post a review of the Operators if you do try them! and if you don't like them, I may offer to take them off your hands... |
