I saw one of these for sale today in .38 Super.  The pistol is stainless steel.  I found it interesting.  It's a series 80 pistol.  Are all .38 Super Commanders roll marked "Super Commander"?

I would like to see a picture! Never heard of it before. No, they are not all roll marked as Super Commander. Is it all stainless or have a alloy frame?

OK, here's some photos.  I think it's all Stainless Steel.  I noticed the S/N starts with CSC.

I've seen plenty of .38 sup Commanders with "regular" rollmarks.

I'm sure a true Colt collector could tell you why some do and don't have your rollmark, but I gave up trying to make sense of Colt's "special run" rollmarks a long time ago.

Exactly as most of them have no "rhyme or reason".

Taking a better look at the photos, I'd say that one's been worked on.  Those are not stock sights, and it looks like both the hammer and mainspring housing have been replaced.  The beavertail also looks like a King's or something, but I couldn't swear to it.  The slide looks as if it's been sanded on.

I actually really like the looks of it, especially that last photo.  You don't often see Commanders with the spur hammers.

I have to agree with you on the changed out parts.  The photo does look like the slide may have been "touched up" but it wasn't that apparent in person.

I can't decide if I want to buy it or not.  I never had a .38 Super and can't say I need one.  So those reasons cancel each other out

You could always have a 9mm barrel fitted for a few bucks.

How much are they asking for it?

I have owned a few 38 Super guns (got in trades) but never fired any. They were alloy framed ones and the lightweights just don't turn me on. All gone now.

But that one pictured I would buy in a heart beat for a reasonable price modified or not. Those combat sights turn me on. I would personally install a combat hammer myself.

They have it out for $600.00, It's tough to haggle about something you've admitted to never seeing before  I've seen nicer .45s for that price but there's something about "SUPER COMMANDER" that gets my juices flowing. A 9mm conversion is tempting but probably not a route I'd take with it.

I was in the shop ordering a different 1911 when I saw the Super Commander.    I think I have to sleep on it.
