Despite what my screen name may suggest, I normally reside on the AR portion of this website, so pardon me if this is a REALLY dumb question.  I found one of these springfields with a sales price of $570 new, and I have been looking for a full-size traditional 1911 "beater" for a while, what do you guys think?

Not a steal, but not a bad price either.  It's a solid, reliable shooter.

I paid 550.00 for one like that 3 years ago. I wish I could buy gas at the same price back then now!@#@%$

I don't believe you'll find one for less than about $550 online currently, plus the shipping and what not which would likely be $25 or so.  So again not a steal of a lifetime price, but you aren't getting hijacked by any means.

Picked it up today, seems like a quality firearm, can't wait to go shoot it tomorrow.

If it works fine don't do anything but shoot, clean and change the springs when needed...that is if truely will be a beater. My experience has been great with the G.I. and Mil Spec.

Just remember that as with any 1911, lots of oil on the slide IS your friend.

Seems like a decent price. Mine runs like a top with just about any type of ammo. In my opinion the sights are alittle to small for me. If the GI sights are too small buy some mil-spec sights. They work a little better!
