I recently bought a Springfield Armory 1911 GI and Im having a problem feeding hollow points. This is my carry gun so its a bit of a concern. Has no problems feeding regular FMJ  ammo (Wolf, Magtech, and PMC). I bought 2 20 round boxes of Hornady and Magtech .45 auto hollows and loaded them into my stock my mag. when I tried to chamber the round it jammed. I figured maybe I had a mag problem, so I bought 2 new Wilson Combat and 2 new Mec-Gar mags. Same problem. Everytime I pull the slide back and it comes foward, the round jams against the feed ramp (Pics below) no matter which mag and which ammo I use. Ive only put about 350 rounds through it so far and I clean and lube it after each use. Is it just a break in issue or a bigger problem? Thanks in advance!

Heres the visual of what its doing to me...

Just a stab here:

Probably going to need a polished feed ramp.

GI's are designed for ball only.

+1

And you should have way more rounds than that through a gun "flawlessly" with the ammo of your choice before ever considering it for CCW

Agreed. You may want to try Winchester Ranger T and Federal Hydroshocks as they both have a bullet profile similar to ball ammo.

Is the bullet nose hitting below the ramp or into the ramp and failing to pivot?

918v:
Bullet nose hits the center of the feedramp then fails to pivot.

CharlieHo:
I understand I should have ATLEAST broken it in before considering it for a CCW, but seeing as this is my first and only handgun and I wouldnt consider where I live the safest place, especially with my work hours, its already saved me and a friend from being carjacked (thank god I didnt have to use it).

Anyway, Im going to try the ammunition suggested by SGB and see if it still happens.

Thanks everybody for the responses. Keep 'em coming if you have any other suggestions.

That means you have a tool mark there that wasn't polished out. Take it to a 1911 smith and have him make a couple adjustments. It'll be fine after that.

From PistolSmith Hilton Yam.... feed problems with 1911's

Type II, Feedway Stoppage. A host of causes may be responsible, to include a rough breech face, burred firing pin hole, excessive extractor tension, inappropriate extractor geometry, and of course issues with the geometry and surface finish of the feed ramp and barrel.

That round was tilted up as mine is tilted downwards into the feedramp. Ill take a clearer picture and post it later. I was told at the gun store that it could be a feed ramp issue and to maybe get it polished. Im going to try the ammo suggested above and see if it makes a difference
