I just bought a couple mags for my Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail.

I bought one Wilson Combat 47DC 8 round mag ($38) and one Chip McCormick 8 round low profile mag (shooting star, $11). I figured that I would see what the $27 difference was.

Empty, both mags fit fine. I load both mags with 8 rounds and the Chip McCormick fits fine, no problems at all. The Wilson will not clip into the gun. If I rack the slide back, then the mag fits and if I only put 7 rounds, it works.

Any ideas?

Push up on the magazine with a bit more force.

Agreed. Seat the magazine with firm positive force.

I tried that. It won't click in to place.

I take that back. Pressing very hard, I got it in. I could not depress the mag release. I had to rack the slide before I could remove the mag.

Not uncommon when seating some fully loaded 8 rd mags into a 1911 with the slide forward.

The 47D is a 7 round mag body that incorporates a modified follower and spring to allow use of 8 rounds.

Wilson's new Tactical mag utilize a longer mag body meant to alleviate some of the 47D series deficiencies.

Tripp Research Cobra mags also are a true 8 round magazine and you may wish to give them a try as well.

Good to know. These are my first 8 round mags for my 1911. I was just surprised because the Chip McCormick mag functions just like my 7 round mags.

Sounds like you're really close. Can you take a ½ loop out of the spring?

Ya know, every time I make an order with someone (usually MidWay)...  I always search for "Tripp Cobra Mags" or similar....   I never seem to find them and end up buying a 47D or PowerMag...

Am I just shopping in the wrong places?

In addition to what has been said...leave the Wilson's loaded for at least 24 hours.  I believe this is what it says on their instructions...I didn't and had trouble with feeding...the spring needs to set.  HTH, Preston
