Springfield SS 1* Yost-Bonitz as new for $1500. That sound like a decent deal? Near as I can tell it looks like it is but wanted a sanity check first. |
But they are no longer available as there is no longer a Yost-Bonitz. Heirloom Precision will build a gun very similar to the 1* but it will cost quite a bit more. Excellent gun for that price, I'd get it. |

Lew Bonitz has the 1* packages at www.grizzlyguns.com/packages/. If you are interested in a true Bonitz 1* package. |
I didn't realize he was still offering them since Yost and the boys are no longer there. I thought Lew was the rifle guy, wonder who is building the 1* now?? Still not the same as one that Ted or Jason built IMO. |
At one time I had thought that too but it seems Bonitz was more like the business manager, didn't build guns at all. ![]()
Knowing what I know now, damn skippy... |
Quote from Jason... "We don't build a "1*" per se but would still be happy to build you a gun that is cosmetically similar to the 1* albeit much more complete in its construction and sans the 1* moniker and marking." I'm assuming it would cost a little more than the original 1* and would be more "complete". |
This is correct... we would still be happy to build a gun that is cosmetically similar to the 1* albeit much more complete in its construction and detail and sans the 1* moniker and marking. Basically we only offer the absolute best in every gun we build with absolutely no functional corners cut. Since every gun that leaves the shop is built be either Ted or I we’re sort of picky about that. Hope this helps... |
The man himself, good to hear from you. |
+1 Springfield Yobos were the "lesser" 1911s for the sheer fact they lacked the pretty pony (yes, for collectors it made that much of a difference and the prices on the used market reflected this). I would pass on this gun for that price a year or two back even though it wouldn't have been a bad deal (rather pay another couple for the more desireable Yobo Colt). Today however, is a different ball game. Yobo is no more, so a springfield Yobo's value is bolstered tremendously from the fact that there are no more Yobo *1s made. I'd definitely consider it today. |

Yep but near as I can tell the Ponied Yobo's are holding at the 2k and above mark. To me the real question is will the value fall below the investment. Not that I'm likely to sell it. I have a hard time getting rid of "special" guns. In the end, I don't believe I could have found a Yobo 1* for any less than I've got into it. With the fact that these are now a page in 1911 history, I don't believe the value will go down from here. Seems to make good sense anyway. |

So the pistol turned out to be a 1* Enhanced built on a loaded stainless. (PX9151L) Not sure why someone started with a loaded, but that's what it is. It's one amazing shooting 1911. Although I do need to figure out why the mainspring housing pin keeps walking to one side. |
