Anyone had or shot one of the Thompson 1911's? I can get my hands on their basic GI model NIB for $400 or less, but was curious if I was truly going to "get what I paid for" with such a low price.

I have one I bought NIB for $300 at Navy Arms (now gone) in Ridgefield many years ago. This was pre-Kahr Ordnance ownership. After polishing the feed ramp and replacing the mag with Wilsons and MeGars, it's been 100%.

The thompson custom isn't really worth that price for one of the basic models.  I used to have their custom flagship model, which I got for around $450 new.  The machining quality was a little rough and the trigger wasn't very nice due to the trigger block safety system (like the colt series 80) and a heavy spring.  There were some sharp edges that you could almost cut yourself on.  I subsequently sold it for $400.  It did run fine when using wilson mags.  The factory mag was strange and didn't even run properly when using standard ball ammo.

The Rock Island pistols are about on par with the Thompson guns and don't have the firing pin block.  I hear that the Rock Island customer service is alot better too.  A Springfield mil-spec or GI is still the best entry level bet.

I have a Thompson ten mil factory wrap around grips with arrowhead brass grips!

It is a John Tompsom pistol!  An original Auto-ordanance,not a Karr!

IT works just like JT wanted it to!
