My guess is that most of you dont like Rock Island, but I am trying to figure out if they are worth the price. I am looking at the tactical version for 390 + shipping + ffl. Is it a worth while deal? What are your opinions on these guns? Is there anything close to this price that is better?

Don't know anything about RI 1911s. You should be able to find a SA G.I. on-line for an additional $60, and believe they're considered pretty solid fundamental 1911s, if you decide the RI is not the way to go. SA's customer support is pretty exceptional and would be worth a few $$ to me, everything else being equal.

Most here like them. 390 seem like a pretty good price.  David

If you search around, RI is an Armscor...it's a Filipino made gun.  That said, armscor is a good thing and you'll be hard pressed to find very negative reviews about it especially at the price. I've got a tactical coming in sometime this week.  $400 is pretty hard to beat.

I'll spent the $1k + when I've got the money to do so.

I got mine years ago for $270, I dont clean it often and normally keep it in my range bag, it shoots mostly cheap ammo.  I have had no problems other then feeding issues on the 1st 50 rounds.

Friend has one and it runs 100%

They're good for the price, and their customer service has a fantastic reputation.

Wouldn't recommend one as a carry or duty piece, though.

Actually at their price they are a good gun. They work and their customer service is great in the rare occasion they don't. Don't consider one for a duty gun (if that's even possible) unless you have a smith go through it.

I love mine.

I picked it up a few years ago for 325.

I have much nicer 1911's but the RIA always comes to the range with me

I've thought about buying one of these too.  The main reason is because they are cheap compared to others and I haven't read of anyone having problems.  I don't think SA makes a 1911 with the same options as the RI tactical for anywhere close to the same price.

Do the RI tactical models have a guide rod?

My RIA Tactical came with a full length guide rod. I prefer a standard guide rod and plug though. Bob
