I want to start using my SA Mil-Spec for CCW, so I wanted to make sure it would run  JHP ammo (230 gr) w/out a problem.

When using my only CM Shooting Star 8 rnd. mag, I get a failure to feed on the last round of the mag every time. I've put plenty of FMJ through this mag w/out a problem.

FWIW the 2 7rnd. factory SA mags that came with the gun work fine. I also have two 8 rnd. Taurus mags that work well, in fact they seem nicer (as far as fit, and they also have what appears to be a better follower) than the SA mags. Tha SA mags seem on par with the Shooting Star.

The above scenario repeats itself when using these mags in the Taurus 1911. All mags feed the JHP except the CM.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for taking time to help a 1911 newb,

I'd just pay a little more and get the Powermags if you're wanting to stick with CMC. I prefer to use 47D's.

I'm not stuck on CM. On the way home from the range, I did stop and buy a 47D. Haven't tried it yet, but after looking at it and looking on-line, I think I'd rather the 47DC or the 47DCB because of the low profile butt-plate. I may take it back and exchange it for one of these other Wilsons.

The only CM's I saw at the gun shop were the Shooting Stars. What's the scoop on the Powermags?

Thanks,

you can get tripp mag upgrade kits for not too much money.  you'd lose a round going to 7 instead of 8 but it'll make it as reliable as any mag out there

Strange.  I have a few CMC 8 round mags and they've fed everything.  If you're having issues, I would go ahead and skip on trying to get a better CMC and just going with the Tripp magazines.  They seem to be excellent.

+1 on the power mags!  Mine had been great with Cor-bon 230 JHPs!
