Are these good pistols? Got a chance to pick one up. It is the compact crusader model. Thanks John

It's an Armscor and basically the same as a Rock Island, just different logo.  I have a full size and compact Rock Island and I love them both.  Your Crusader is like my RI compact, but probably with better sights.  Mine has the old style GI sights.

I just picked-up an HS fullsize.  I haven't fired it yet, but the fit and finish is on par if not better than SA mil-specs I've seen and owned.  And from the research I've done, everyone seems pleased with their Armscor 1911's.

Worth noting is that they're reported (over on the m1911.org forums) to have poor customer service and bad business practices.

Mine's warranted through Armscor in NV and not HS.

I'm pleased with mine.

the only issue I ever had was when I experimented with a heavier grease than I usually use. - just a couple of FTF's with the thicker lube... but with good ol' hoppe's #9 it eats just about anything

I paid more than $400 for the compact, but the full sized were priced right around 4

Really that hasn't been my observation over there...  In fact I'd say that's just not true.  They have two distributor reps on M1911 who are very proactive and personally take responsiblity for repairs.

For instance:

When I posted an issue I was having with a RIA over there I got the following message the next day:

From: LVSHOOTER
Subject: RIA Warranty

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Send me the gun and I'll have it repaired or replaced under warranty. This has nothing to do with the firing pin. It's one of two things. It's more than likely the barrel is not locking up consistently.
If you have any questions please contact me directly. I'll be in charge of resolving this issue for you.

I called Armscor Precision Int'l, spoke with Ray, and sent the pistol back. 13 days later Ray called to notify me that the pistol was fixed and being returned...new firing pin stop fitted, reliability tuneup, test firing. The pistol arrived yesterday - making it 17 days roundtrip including shipping time.

I field stripped and cleaned the pistol, and noticed that a fair amount of tuning had occurred. The extractor clocking was definitely fixed. I re-installed the thin grips (I had put the originals back on before I sent it in).

I then took the pistol to the range and put 100 rds WWB 230 fmj downrange, then put 35 rds Federal Hydrashok 230 JHP thru it...ZERO FAILURES.

For the second time with this pistol, another shooter at the range has asked me "Are you a police officer?" ("No but I've done some shooting..."). Weird.

In summary, FWIW:

1. The pistol was returned in a reasonable amount of time
2. the issue appears to be resolved
3. it appears to me that Armscor Precision Int'l did additional tuning to ensure that they don't see the pistol again any time soon.

Contact ArmscorBA, or LVshooter on here. First is Ivan, and second is Ray both from Advanced Tactical, they are the US distributor, and have always stood by their products, I'm sure they will get you taken care of.

Welcome. Don't worry Ivan and Ray will take care of your pistol. Every company has lapses in QC at times, but Ivan and Ray are the best for customer service.

My Experience:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Longer story short: I bought a used RIA Compact .45. I had a problem with it. I sent it to Advanced Tactical. I told them I had bought it used. Some modifications had been done by a former owner but were not the cause of the problem I had with it. I sent it in to Ray and Ivan. Ray called me and told me the gun should be replaced. I had to wait for a new compact till some came in, which is not unreasonable.

I now use the replacement as my carry gun. I am well pleased with it. I am VERY impressed with RIA. They're tops. I have five RIA .45s.

My experience with buying a pre-owned RIA .45 was a most positive one. I trust these guys.

The High Standards come off the same production line as the RIA's.  Per their rep, the pistols are virutally identical.

I believe you mis-interpreted my post. I was referring specifically to High Standard, not Rock Island. Do a search on High Standard over there and you'll see what I mean.

Right.  I was just posting that if anyone is worried about customer service from HS, it's actually Armscor that services the warranty on the gun and not HS.

I don't know about the past, but IMO Rock Island and High Standard (both Armscor) have the best customer service.  Go to 1911.org and you'll see what I mean. Go to 1911forum.com and 1911.org and you'll read a lot of praises.  I only searched for a few minutes, but I couldn't find anyone having a problem.

Here's the thread on High Standard's business practices.  The pistols are fine.

So, just to be clear...

While there may have been some discussion elsewhere that was negative in some degree. None of us arfcom'ers have had any problems... right?

Or did I miss something?

The general consensus from the research I've done on various forums is Armscor makes a good 1911 (be it HS or RIA).

The issue is with the poor business practices from whoever runs High Standard.  That's from the thread I linked above.

Again, the pistols are fine.

And other than the High Standard markings (which some may prefer), you never have to deal with HS as Armscor warranties the gun.

I really like that Crusader Compact.  That's a really nice package.  I think if I could find one around here at a good price I just might buy one.
