I have been trying to decide on who to go with with for my 1911. I was going to get a Para LTC, but after reading the reviews pass. Then I was going to go with Kimber, same thing pass. So how good are Springfield and Smith and Wesson? I would like a 4" barrel for ccw. Then later on down the line I will get a full size. Plus I want a manufactor that has great customer servise and that stands behind their product.  Any advice would be great.
Thanx
Jeff

If you're after a true 4" bbl, Springfield is the way to go. S&W makes the Colt Commander style 4.25". Not much of a difference, but I feel it's worth noting.

I've been happy with my S&W 1911PD 4.25", despite a few hiccups. S&W stood behind it 100% and responded with fast and effective service.

I've yet to own a Springfield so can't comment on them personally, though the few I've shot seemed to be solid pistols and they have a great rep on the board for quality customer service.

Honestly I don't think you'd go wrong with either manufacturer in that price range, simply pick the model that has the features you prefer.

I have been looking at the Springfields off and on. The only problem with them is every body is out of them right now.

Thanx for the replies everyone. I think I am going to go with Springfield. How hard is it to conceal a full size 1911?

IWB - it will be the same as a Commander - the grip size is the same, and that is where you will print.

Thanx Cajunboy, I think I found the model that I want. Springfield 1911A1 Loaded Lightweight Bi-Tone w/11 Gear Sys. For some reason I really like the 2 tone.
Thanx again everyone for the feedback
