I have a Stainless II w/ an external extractor. It only has roughly 300 rds. through it. Not nearly broken in. I have had no problems with it ...yet. Should I expect some or could I be lucky and have a good gun.

Send it to Kimber and they will replace the slide NO QUESTIONS ASKED .

No, they will not just replace it "no questions asked". You will have to tell them what problems you are having and they will have to verify and decide if THEY want to replace the slide. If you call up and tell them that they HAVE to replace the slide, I'll bet you get a quick "no".

I've read several accounts of folk that initially reported no problems with the external extractor but  began to have problems at around the 3000 round mark.

A simple call to Kimber will tell you if they'll replace the slide or not.

Mine and my brothers went TU at 1500-1800 rounds. Unfortunately this was AFTER I had new sights put in, a beavertail fitted, the trigger smoothed and the whole thing NP3ed. I was out a lot of money.

I will never own another external extractor on a 1911 again. And it is unlikely I will buy a kimber pistol again as well.

I've been lucky with my external extractor Kimber. The extractor spring wore out at about 8000 rounds and Kimber sent me new one to replace it. Other than that, no problems. It's at well over 10000 rounds now.

Have an Eclipse with the external extractor, no problems at all.

The external extractor was a solution for a problem that never was. It was supposedly tunable, if what works does work why replace it with 3 extra parts?

How so?

Did they refuse to honor the warranty and make you pay for a new slide?

They won't pay to replace the work on a new slide.
