I found a used CZ Dan Wesson for $850 today.  It's in really good condition, looks new.  It's a stainless bobtail with a 4 inch barrel.

I'm still a 1911 newbie and was hoping you guys could help me out.  Is $850 a fair price?

The best price I have seen lately is 929 at Cabelas NIB

Fair for new, high for used.  I've seen used ones for $750.

You can track down new ones for just under $900 like in the $890 range.  With that said, if it was $850 used meaning the original owner put 50 rounds through it and you can't tell the difference between this and a new one, it's not a bad deal.

Bud's had the CBOB back a ways for around 870 new.  Last I looked they don't have them.  This put some on the market used in the 750 range.

I haven't seen one at that price in a bit.  (Not saying they aren't there, I just haven't run across one)

All that being said, I'd say given my observations $800 would be far more fair than 850 for a used one.  Now does it have extra mags, VZ grips, anything additional with it that makes up a $50 price gap.

YMMV

If they tried to pass it off as NIB I'd believe them.  The

It has the stock grips but I'm not sure about anything else that would make up any price gap.  I'm going back in sometime today so I'll find out.  Listening to you guys I think I'll pass on this one.  Thanks for the advice guys.

We didn't say pass, we just said it's too high.  Walk in with 8 $100 bills and see if you can get it for $800 out the door.  That would be most fair I would think.

I spent most of the afternoon looking at 1911s.  In the process I found 2 more of the same model. One NIB and the other used but supposedly never fired.  Both of these were in the same price range as the first.  If nothing else I figured out what the going price is here and where to look.

I'm going to take a deep breath and do a little more research but I have a feeling I'll be bringing one home as soon as I get my tax refund.

Thanks again for the advice.

I would recomend that ONLY the new one be worth the 850-900 range as that is what I payed for mine.  As for the others, older CBOB guns had 20 lpi checkering until recently when they changed to the 25 lpi checkering on the front straps.  That will give hyou and indication of the age of the guns.  I saw an older cbob at a gun show for  about $650 a month ago so that should help you get an understanding of the reasonable price range.
