What do ya'll think of the Para high cap 1911's?? More specifically the P13? I'm thinking of picking one up just to vary the collection a little and maybe carry occasionally if it proves reliable enough. What say you??? |
No personal experience but everything I see says, "The older they are the better and the new ones are junk." As always, YMMV ! |

I have a fairly new Warthog that works great. It had one issue with the previous owner, and Para went waaaay out of thier way to fix the problem. I feel thier customer service is top notch, and I value that just as much as a quality product (which I feel Para makes) |
| The STI/SVI is a fundamentally better design, and worth the extra coin IMHO. Before I had STIs, I owned a Para. The investment cast frame cracked on both sides where the dust cover met the trigger guard. I have a friend who built a 38 Super racegun on a similar Para frame, and he had the exact same thing happen. |

I have an older model p13 and love it. Blued slide and parked frame. Only changes have been an extended thumb safety and checkered the front of the gip. I also changed the rear site to a low profile type. Shoots good and it is good for a carry gun. Only down side was the parkerizing, it would get surface rust when the humidity was up. Solved that by coating it with Corrossion X. Coat. wipe off and let dry. No more rust after one treatment. When ever the irs check comes I am thicking the carry 12 lda. I shot this type when they first came out at a para event(San Antonio about 1998). 5 bucks and get to fire 300 rounds from one or more guns but you only get 300 rounds. |
Got it ... just checked the box P1445SR Thanks pulpsmack |

I had a S13 Ltd (.45). CONS: Plastic MSH Plastic Trigger Plastic front sight Loose Bomar rear sight little tiny voids in the castings--both slide and frame very weak springs throughout--wouldn't run at all until mag and recoil springs were changed out breech face was rough--required polish before it would run poor quality extractor--hook broke after less than 500 rds. $50 for mags PROS: Extremely accurate--best 25 yd offhand group I ever shot came from this gun--3"/50 rds double the ammo capacity of a standard 1911 fits any commander holster I traded mine straight up for a Springfield PX9109LP....I'm much happier with the Springfield. IMO, the fit, finish, reliability and overall quality of the less expensive Springfield is worth more than the higher mag capacity. The Springfield isn't as accurate--5" groups at 25 yds instead of 3"....no big deal to me. **on a side note, it took the shop almost a year to sell that Para, and he was only asking $650 for it. |
Yeah but now the lifetime warranty is over because you aren't the original owner. At least in my experience that puts an end to their attention span. But here's more on my view of Para. Para Info |
The previous owner wasn't the original owner either My Dad bought it used from a shop, then I bought it from him. He had the problem, had it fixed, and then offered to sell it to me so he could get another new toy. There was some other customer service stuff that I was very impressed with not even related to the gun (company correspondance, etc) so I wouldn't hesitate to go with them for a new purchase. |
I don't need to buy a Yugo to know they are worth less than a BMW.

I felt that way once as well. Kimber used to have great service too. I dunno. It's like anything else. YMMV and all that. I've made my investments in Para and ultimately all those guns are gone now. That's not to say when they worked that didn't shoot great. Because they did. I'm not saying if I ran across one that was a great deal I'd avoid it like the plague, but I wouldn't spend my money with them without the great deal part. Too many other companies like Springer that still have great customer service. |
