I am looking into purchasing my very first (hopefully of many  ) 1911. After holding a para and feeling the LDA trigger I decided that some manner of Lda is the way i want to go. A local gun store has a covert black 14 45 new for $749. I am guessing it is an older model left over because it has the regular hammer not the shaved hammer but is an LDA. My questions are... Would this make a good first 1911? Is that a reasonable price? Or should I save up a little more money and pick up an SSP LDA? I am new to the game so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Para Ordnance is not what I would choose to represent the 1911 style pistol. Para Ordnance has had a hit and miss track record with many shooters.

What is your price range?

The Springfield Loaded's are nice (and can be found for the same price or a little less than the Para.)

Other than the para's the kimbers and springfields have caught my eye.... I have read good feedback about both.... any advice? I want a reliable 1911 that wont break the bank too bad... somewhere in the eight hundred dollar area. Its gonna take some saving to get there but I want to do it right.

For a range gun the LDA trigger is fine.  For a defensive pistol, NO NO NO.

There are many that will argue, but I'm sorry LDA is a horrid idea for a defensive handun.  It is NOT a single action, nor is it a double action.

You can't recock the hammer in the case of say a light primer strike and you can't just pull the trigger again.  You either partially cycle the slide (risky) or run a failure drill and eject the round.

In my book, that's just a bad design for a fighting handgun.

and don't buy one used because they only have a lifetime warranty for original owners.

I was just on Springfields website . . . yah . . . that there loaded stainless. . . thats nice , the parkerized looks sweet too. The prices seem to be in my ballpark as well. Eh maybe i'll get a para down the road sometime. So the general concensus is that the Springfields are good reliable guns? So far i am still waiting on my Id card and pistol permits (3 of them) and I allready have a G22, an M&P 9 , and a Blackhawk 357/9mm waiting for me at a local gun shop... so i'll have one permit left over for now and I want a 1911 45 for that one!!

I've been looking at a Springfield MilSpec for my first pistol.

I'd like to tinker with it when I get another handgun somewhere down the road.

Anyone have any problems with springers?
