A friend of mine has a WWII era 1911 that, due to the complicated story surrounding how he got it, is likely to be very authentic and untouched.  He asked for my help in estimating it's value but I know very little about WWII 1911s.

Can someone tell me how to verify it is authentic?

How do I estimate it's worth?

The ID process varies a  bit, depending on the manufacturer (there were at least 5 manufacturers of M1911A1s during WW2). Since it should be in the condition described, there should be no incorrect parts, and you can comb the web with respect to the manufacturer of the 1911 to see the various stampings/markings of the parts. Price can vary widely, particularly in light of how he or his predecessor may have acquired this "pristine, untouched" firearm.

You can IM me with info [sn#, make, BBL code/manf, markings, finish] and I'll look it up for you but sans much more info then what you posted it would be impossible to make an estimate. Could be $500.00 [refinished put to gether] to $5000.00 for an original rarer model. Maybe more, maybe less.
