Ok I have to have a 1911 for my collection. I will be shooting this gun alot as it will be my only .45.

Now this is what I want in the pistol: All black frame and slide(parkersized?), ambi safety (I am a lefty), 5 inch model, fixed sights, no need for forward serrations (preferably none) and here is the kicker: no barrel bushing so it looks like this photo;

I would be very happy with this pistol except it is a Charles Daly and these aren't exactly the highest of quality and reliability. If only it said Springfield Armory.

Can a full size 1911 be had without the barrel bushing? I wouldn't mind installing a bull barrel on an SA to get rid of it.

Price is something I will worry about later.

Thanks for any help,

RF11.

Why don't you want a BBL bushing?

Can't stand the look of it, I don't know why.

I know when I fire the gun i can't see that part of it.

Too much shiny chrome at the front, I don't know...

Those are the key words right there.  If price is no object you should be looking at STI.  Quite a few of their models can be had with a bushing or with a bull barrel.  I've got a Tactical .45 myself and have never shot a better gun in my life.

Short of ordering a custom gun, STI would be the way to go if you want a fullsize without the barrel bushing.  If you could live with a Commander size gun, the SA Champions come with a bull barrel, and would be cheaper than the STI.  At the moment, I can't think of any others that come standard with the bull barrel.

Wow, FANTASTIC point.  My wife got a Champion a few months ago and absolutely loves it.  Thanks for jogging my ole noodle.

Ok great tips, looking at the Sprinfield Armory custom work sheet; $390 to install a bull barrelht
By the way can I get the front serrations taken off or never put on if I order directly from Springfield.

I am being this anal about everything as we are restricted to 10 Firearms (not including shotguns) here in Malta and want something exact as its price will stop me from selling it if I don't. May have to get the new Colt Delta elite thoughhanks,

<-- had to look up where Malta was. I didn't even know you could easily get Springfield Armory stuff that easily outside the country. Is it common for people in Malta to have guns shipped from the US to them?

I don't think you'd be able to get a TRP without the checkering on the front strap, but I could be wrong on this. I don't know what kind of regulation you would run into with exporting firearms and whatnot.

If price really isn't an issue and you know what you want, I would suggest going with a custom built gun. Since you are limited to 10 firearms, you might as well get one that is exactly what you want.

Thanks, we have a dealer who imports through Italy.

I also have friends in Switzerland who are gun dealers, do you know if there is an official Springfield distributer in Switzerland? I might be able to get it through them. I plan to head up to Switzeland once or twice this year for business and firearms training.
