I really want to get a new 1911. I have two Kimbers in .45 and one in .22, a Colt in 9mm, and a Dan Wesson BT Commander in .45. My Kimbers are the II models with external extractors, never had a problem with them, so no complaints. Here is the deal, I really pefer the Kimber style over the Colt. I like the Dovetail low mount sights, long trigger, beavertail, flat mainspring housing, ect. Should I try to save up for a pistol built like I want, I am thinking it will run around $2500.00, and saving up for that will take a while, like years, money is very tight right now. Or, sell off the ones I have to finance the one I think I really want? Part of me wants to keep everything just to have a high pistol count for my "collection", but part of me thinks once I get the "dream pistol", I may never shoot the other ones anyhow. So, what would you do? Thanks, Travis Is this working now?

Those external extractor II series Kimbers would have to go. They haven't given you problems yet but they will. I would be contacting Kimber about about replacing the slides to internal extractors like they've done for many others. Once that was accomplished I'd sell them and use that money to begin my custom gun fund. |
Nothing really I guess. I would like a 1911 that has internal extactor and no extra safety features. I have had no problems with the Kimber, even with the external extractor and mim parts, but I want one without all that I guess. A little more "custom" as in higher quality parts and craftsmanship. |
The Custom Carry will be built to your requirements, add this change that stuff is allowable. The Pro is built to the FBI contract specs and you get what the FBI gets. |

Sell the 2 kimbers and the DW and buy an RRA with that money. That's what I'd do. Keep the colt 9mikemike though. If it runs good. I would miss that one. That's what I'd do, but I'm not you. Plus, I don't know if what I'd do is the wisest thing. You don't always get what you should for used pistols. Unless you could work something out with a dealer or something. |

I went through the same decision process recently and opted to sell off the Kimbers for a Wilson. As you predicted, I don't miss the kimbers a bit. Personally, I like to own one gun for any given purpose (carry, target, hunting, whatever), buy the best I can afford, shoot the daylights out of it, and be extremely competent with it and confident in it. I understand the collecting thing, just am not interested. I might be if I won the powerball.... |
Life's too short to wait forever and unexpected things can happen to you at any time. If you really want that custom gun sell what you have to in order to get it. Just be sure it's what you really really want! Everyone should have their dream gun at least once in their life! Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45!! ![]() NRA Member |
Tell me about the Professional. I really like the looks of that one, need to find a dealer near me that might have one so I can put my hands on one. Got any better pics than the Sprinfield website? Range report? This will be a big decision(sp?) for me, any help would be appreciated. Travis |
