Who, in the opinion of the Overmind here, makes the best 1911 for a novice pistol/1911 owner? Im just looking for one that shoots stright every time i pull the trigger and that wont break the bank.

What exactly is "the bank?"

Proper entry level IMO is SA.

A nice lightly used M1991 Colt.

+1

some will suggest the RIAs (~$300); others, include the Taurus PT1911 (use to be ~$500, now ~$600)...many owners like theirs, others dont

imo, i'd rather opt for a $600+ SA Loaded, Colt, or Kimber Custom

(I've heard) RIA makes a nice 1911, and those are in the $300-$450 range.

Taurus makes a fairly solid 1911, but those have climbed to around $549 (they debuted someplace around $450, if memory serves me correctly)

I went to go buy a Tauras PT1911, and found that an entry level Kimber (Custom II) was only $50 more. So that was a no-brainer. :/

As many have said, we really need to know some things about you before we can adequately answer the question. There is no "super" 1911, and as I'm sure that you've discovered in this thread alone, you will get 40 different answers.

If you have large hands (meaning, wear an "XL" size glove or larger), you'll need to get an extended beavertail, otherwise you'll have issue with "hammer/slide bite". This is caused by skin on your hand riding over the back of the grip safety. When the slide cycles, it pinches the skin. Depending on how much you shoot, this can get quite painful.

Personally, I'd say go with an entry-level Kimber, or a "loaded" Springfield. Both are going to cost you a bit (a few dealers in my area are selling "Custom IIs" for $599), but you'll be happier in the long run.

Depends on what you mean "won't break the bank"....Assuming you are just an average Joe  like me, and spending $3000 on a custom 1911 will get you divorced or worse:

You can get a Springfield Milspec model for around $500 or so....might be less if you look hard or buy used.  GREAT basic gun, shoots good, and I have never had a lick of trouble.  Springfield makes a good Operator model with light rail, bevertail grip safety, ambi thumb safety, Novak sights, power windows, power locks, AC.....hat).
Overall I'd pick up a Milspec or GI model Springfield for just starting out....good prices and SOLID pistols!  Take the money you save from a custom pistol and go buy some ammo to practice with.

Go with RIA.  Nobody has ever had a problem with them and they are just as good as Colt, Springfield, and Kimber for less than half the price.

Ditto, what is the bank??

A standard SA A-1 will get you in the game, but if the plan is to upgrade it a later time, you are better off spending a few hundred more and getting the features you want up from (verses much more at a later date or the same factory features).

A loaded will serve the purpose nicely if you want adjustable sights, but a Trophy match has all the bells and whistles you may be thinking about adding later on and can be had for around $1000.

Taurus or Springfield Armory mil-spec.  I don't know how much you are willing to spend but why drop $1000.00 into something that you may not want to shoot down the road.  What am I thinking,  There must be some kind of 1911 disease similar to the Black Rifle Disease.  If I had $1000.00 to spend on a 1911 I would go with the loaded SA.  I didn't have the thousand so I went with the Taurus for half that.  I do have a SA Champion and I love it, but it is bare bones.

for kicks and giggles, call it $800, although less is better as long as quality/reliability/accuracy doesnt suffer too much

Well it MUST be true, I read it right here in the 1911 forum, from guys who have multiple magazines through their guns.  When you want to ditch those overpriced Colts I'll give you $300 apiece for them.

This always cracks me up. Sure they seem to be fine for $300, but I keep seeing this ludicrous claim that they "are just as good" and just can't believe people actually believe this.

in the under 800 range, I would look tp pick up aused colt. Also just read an article about STI's spartan(looked at one at my usual shop today and it was $650) and it sounds pretty good too. In my area it would not be hard at all to find a good used colt in the 500-700 range however

depending on the position of the planets and the phase of the moon, some novice 1911 owners are swayed by local range morons to trade it in on "something else", if this is the case, you can find some GREAT deals on used 1911s...

i picked up a barely used Kimber Custom II for $450... it goes bang all the time and eats Corbon DPX...

my friend bought a SA GI 1911 repro, that he uses in IDPA, aside from a Wilson Combat mag follower jumping the slide stop, he has had no problems with it... he paid like $350 for it...

i've seen a LNIB Nighthawk Talon on consignment for $1300...
