I've been reading a lot of almost all 1911 brands having finish problems in one way or another. Very early wear, scratches, peeling off, and so on.
What are your opinions about this, and which brand and finish type is more resistant to wear?

If you want a true hassle free finish you have to go with Stainless. There are many good options, but they all come with strings (hardchrome is excellent UNTIL it finally gets scratched... the latest whiz bang treatment costs hundreds extra, etc).

The Europeans finish their guns in stuff that the EPA won't allow over here.

Stainless may end up tarnishing, but at the end I prefer that (that can be easily polished out) WRT finishes that comes off the frame.
Actually, a nice bead blasting like suggested in the other thread might be just what the doctor prescribed

My point exactly. Hard chrome for example is an extremely durable finish that has withstood decades of fly-by-night finish proceedures. It is hard to scratch it, but once scratched it looks awful and must be redone. Same applies with wonder finishes. No matter how strong they are, WHEN they scratch or mar it WON'T buff out, unlike SS.
