| I have a Springfield-Armory Mil-spec 1911 that I'd like to get a .22LR conversion for. Any good ones that are reliable and worth the money? |

There's two major after-market brands that I can recall: Ceiner & Marvel (IIRC?). One has a slide lock after last shot fired, the other doesn't. One slide is steel, the other aluminum (which galls). I can't recall which brand is which, but a visit to their web sites should put you on the 4-1-1, IMO. Kimber also makes a conversion kit, IIRC? No clue if SA actually makes one or not. Sorry I wasn't more help here, but there'll be others along whom have bought some, no doubt. |

Kimber makes an excellent conversion unit. I own one and it's very accurate and reliable, as long as you use high velocity ammo. The only downside, if it's important to you, is that the slide doesn't lock back after the last round is fired. Fit and finish is excellent and it has an adjustable rear sight. Midway has them on sale every so often ($279.99 as of today) so check their site. Diamondback A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45!! ![]() NRA Member |
| IIRC the Kimber is simply made by Ciener, although I may be wrong about that. Ive got a EAA/Tanfaglio (SP?) unit that I got fairly cheap. My only bitch about it the mag price. Mine unit only came with 1 mag. Been reliable for me although ive read that other EAAs take a lil tweaking of the spring to make them run reliably. |
I saw the Kimber one... so that's good to go? It looked appealing to me. Last round lock-back is not important to me. I don't know why people get freaky about that... does your revolver spit the cylinder when it is last round? |
No but a centerfire 1911 with good mags does. Train like you fight etc. which is the whole point of buying a conversion rather then a seperate dissimilar .22 pistol |

Tactical Solutions - still waiting for their webpage to show something Marvel - popular in NRA bullseye * touted as most accurate .22lr conversion and is said to rival many ISSF competition guns in accuracy like the Walther GSP, Pardini, Hammerli, Unique, etc. Advantage Arms - slide locks back after last shot, also seen in NRA bullseye. Ceiner = Kimber |
