Are you looking for a 1st .45? Do you like to tinker, and do you have the Kuhnhausen manuals? If not then this wouldn't be a good choice. I picked one up in a trade and didn't expect a out of the box runner. I tuned and dremeled on the one I have and it runs well, now. If it's all you can afford and it's the only one you can get, then get it. Otherwise, save for a better one. |
I also have a Max-I .45. I've never had a failure with hard ball ammo, but I also have trouble with HPs. I'm using the inexpensive 8 round chip mccormick "shooting star" magazines in this gun. the forum at www.m1911.org has a section dedicated to the Llamas with a lot of good information. |
a lama is not a 1911. it does not use the same parts so you can't swap say the trigger or hammer. to top it off it's a piece of junk. go rock island. you get 100% ISGI swappable parts so you can upgrade later if you want to. i have a buddy that got one he sent to a gun smith and for about 200 he had it running like a $1K gun. |
Save a little more money and get a Springfield GI model, or maybe the mil spec model. You definitely will be better off in the long run. My first 1911 was a AMT Hardballer I bought new in 1989.

. I'd save your money for a GI Springfield. The money wouldn't be much more and you'd get a quality pistol with an excellent warranty.
