Rumor has it the first full-auto 1911 was created by a young Lt. George S. Patton. Seems he did a "trigger job" on his 1911 & when he went to test it, it shot the entire mag with a single trigger pull. He almost got court martialed over FUBARing govt property, potentially wrecking the future career of one of America's greatest generals. |

I had one happen in class once. The instructor said, "I expect to see all eight rounds in a nice grouping" It didn't work out that way. The cause was a trigger job, not by me, and the result of an overtravel screw not being either locktited, or staked. It was funny though when it happened.

No clue about that, but there weren't a whole lot of semi's then other than the 1911. Not to mention he was in the Army when it happened & it was his issue gun. Obviously later on he carried his six-shooters. No one would dare tell a General what to carry as a sidearm...............
