My Springfield loaded model (PX9109L) has just arrived at The Springfield Custom shop. This was my first "real" 1911 which followed my disaterous experience with a Charles Daly Field model 1911 4 years ago (My first 1911).

In the interim I bought a Kimber Warrior which has been absolutely flawless out of the box. It eats everything and ask for seconds, It is silky smooth in the action, finish and accuracy department and has been a dream without any modification.

My good friend and 1911 afficianado SP10 is a Springer guy through and through and through the years has indoctrinated me into keeping the faith in my Loaded model Springfield. In its current state, my PX9109L is the antithesis of my Kimber warrior; gritty, rough and tumble with a lumpy trigger. It currently sports hogue wrap around grips and shoots like a 1910 era scattergun. Hopefully that is about to change.

My goal is to create a sub $1k balls to the wall, absolutely reliable fighting 1911 that i can depend on like taxes. Here are the planned modifications:

- Springfield TRP upgrade package which includes:
Install TRP barrel & bushing, skelotonized delta hammer, low mount Novak rear sight & dovetail front sight with 3 dot tritium inserts, extended ambidextrous thumb safety, custom fitted beavertail grip safety, adjustable lightweight aluminum match trigger, full length guide rod w/heavy duty recoil spring & buffer system, flat checkered mainspring housing; tune & polish extractor; deburr pistol internally; carry bevel sharp edges of pistol; machine checker front strap 20LPI (+); check headspace; polish feed ramp & throat barrel; combat action job w/smoothly tuned 4- 4.5# trigger pull; Recontour frame and dust cover to 2002 specs; front cocking serrations; heavy Armory Kote finish (black) on all parts minus the trigger, barrel, bushing & guide rod.
-Springfield Inc. 2 piece mag well, matched to bevel on frame of pistol.
-Chuck Rogers Tier One rear sight (double green trijicon lamps)
-Grieder short trigger
-Ed Brown Tactical safety(Non-Ambi)
-Ed Brown hardcore slide stop
-Wilson Combat bulletproof extractor
-Wilson Combat steel firing pin & stop
-Davidson G10 warthog grips
-King's narrow slot grip screws & bushings

Expected work time is 10 weeks. Updates to follow. Until then here are some pics of the pistol in its current configuration

Anybody else had work done at the S.A Custom shop? Lets see some pics, maybe even a TRP upgrade?
