how do you clean your pistols, is it bad to push a bronze bore brush down the chamber out the muzzle, and then BACK through? is that bad for the crown? or is it all good?

on semi-autos, straight through from breach to muzzle end...all the way through then all the way back...no "scrubbing"...sounds right to me...unless I misread or miswrote something before this coffee kicks in...

Just dont use steel brushes, and do use a coated rod. When you push the brush down the barrel its not a scrubbing motion. You push until the brush comes out the other side, and then pull it back completely through. The rod should be able to swivel with the lands and groves in the barrel. So if you are using one with a fixed handle throw it away and get something like a coated Dewey or Tetra rod for pistols. Nylon brushes are good for getting powder fowling out and general cleaning. Never use steel brushes. I still dont even know why they even make them.

I scrub mine down with Hoppes first to break down all the powder residue, and then spray off the parts with something like Gun Scrubber or Breakfree's Powder Blast. I then wipe down all the parts with a rag soaked in CLP, put a drop of oil on contact parts (also lube the contact points between frame and slide with grease), and then reassemble. Cycle the slide a few times, and then wipe off the exess.

For the barrel I do the same as above except use a brush and some copper solvent to work any copper deposits loose. Then soak a patch in more solvent, run it down the barrel, and then let it sit while Im cleaning the rest of the pistol. Once all the other parts are cleaned I go back to the barrel, and use the brush again. That usually gets most or all of the copper fauling out. You can always repeat the process until it gets cleaned. I then run a few dry patches down the tube and spray powder blast down the barrel (make sure to get all the solvent out as some of them are quite harsh and you dont want it in the barrel for more than 20m),then run a patch soaked in oil, and then two more dry ones. I put a drop of oil on the lugs, and rub the exess into the barrel link.

anybody else tell me if youve ever seen damage from brushing back over the crown?
