Anyone have one of these?  How do you like it?  Looking at picking one up.  Nothing came up in my searches.  Thanks.

Yes, I know the frame is cast, probably in another country, but so is a Beretta, Brazilian Springy, HK, CZ, AK47, Sig, etc.  If you know anything about manufacturing, the term"Made in the USA" is quite broad.  Only part of the Mfg., finishing, or machining need be done here in the states to make such a claim.  Just looking for inherent problems out of box.

a buddy of mine has one; for the price, its not that bad...but, similarly, you can get a similar model from SA or kimber for a little more

the frame is cast (made in the Philippine Islands, some say the same manf as the RIAs, but its Armscorp; while casting is ok for some guns, it also matters on the quaility of the metal and the proceedures that can make or break the overall durability of the cast frame), most parts are fitted by STI, and its a nice shooter; h/w, the finish is a tad rough, but it locks up tight and the front sight was a tad canted over
also, the trigger is plastic, which annoyed me since i'd think STI would at least install a decent alumuminum trigger
gun shoots fine/reliably; i cant comment on its long-term standing

here is another online review: ezine.m1911.org/STISpartan_frame.htm

Which part of the Philippines are Berreta, HK, Springfield, and CZ made?

RIA is not known for putting out the same level of quality as the manufacturers you mentioned.

sorry, its Armscorp who makes the frames; as to the beretta, HK, Springfields, CZs...well, i dont think half of those companies use anything casted in thier frames

HKs's are mostly poly and thier slides are one piece machined; Springfield 1911s are forged frames (made in Brazil mostly though); Berettas, i thought were alloy frames, machined; CZs, all i know is that they are either al alloy or steel...

also, from "

amish_psycho": i've never heard of a "cast" AK47...they are usually either stamped steel or milled...

I have one.  My GF bought it for me.

I think it's still in the break-in period.  The second and second to last rounds will jam sometimes.  The trigger is surprisingly nice for the price of the gun.  It breaks at 4.5 pounds.

The frame on the Spartan is slightly shorter than other 1911's to if you care a lot about flush mags and perfect grips then pass on the Spartan.

Accuracy is great, I'm going to buy a Marvel .22lr unit and use the gun for NRA bullseye.  I like the fiber optic sight.  Mine came sighted from the factory so that if the FO dot covered the bullseye it was a 10.

Some people have complained about "idiot marks" on NIB guns.  Look over the gun carefully.

BE
search this site, for more info on the spartan.

STI uses "Plastic" triggers on a lot of there 2011 and 1911. Still watting to break my 2011 trigger, but it only has 10k of 40 onit so far.

For the money I'd say the spartan is a good starter pistol.

So does arguing that Armscorp makes the parts instead of their brand name RIA make it any less Philippino?

SA is the only other manufacturer you listed who outsources their frames and they have issues too. Two wrongs don't make a right.

to the 1st question: nope; i'm not arguing that armscorp (made in PI) is any better or "less Philippino (Filipino)", i was simply correcting myself from my previous post when i mentioned RIA, since its tagged on the STI Spartan "Armscorp"

sure SA is the only manf that outsources (and ironically, the only US company listed)...whats that got to do with anything i said?
i never said anything about outsourcing frames or "issues" with anything; i was simply pointing out that i dont think that most of the companies are using cast frames

so whats your problem--if you believe that i mentioned something incorrect, then by all means, pls tell me the correct info, instead of misinterpreting simple facts/corrections i'm listing and counteracting with comments that have nothing to do w/ what i previously said

And what would these issues be???  SA makes some of the most consistent 1911's today.  There are no problems with the IMBEL frames that SA uses.

For the money the STI Spartan is a decent deal.  You can get into a SA or Kimber for a couple hundred more but I don't think there is anything wrong with the STI.

Lastly, both posters above are right - RIA and ARMSCOR are one in the same.

I've only cracked one type of 1911 frame. The SA high cap.

One frame was made in Brazil, the other was made in Canada.
