I have a 1911 that I am fitting a set of ergo grips to for bullseye. I need to shim the right side grip pannel to give me the grip width I want. I cannot find grip screws that are longer than the standard length. Brownells does not carry any extra length grip screws. Does anyone know if they are available, or what the thread specs are so I can start looking for machine screws. TIA.

Most hardware stores can help you out with this, just bring in the old set of screws. If you live close to a Fastenal store that'd be your best option.

SGT,
You will not find anything that is even close in a hardware store.
The thread size is 'special' to the 1911.
Surefire has some long screws for use with one of their tac light tape switches.
Maybe, just maybe they will sell you a few.

I just added a .04 and a .065 shim to each side of a Colt GM.  Over a tenth inch
under the grips.   I searched the world for longer grip screws, and could NOT FIND
ANY.

But get this: the factory screws still work.   I don't know how or why, but they do.

You are not going to find a 0.1500-50 screw at the hardware store.
Are you sure the existing screws are to short?
You ony need about 3-5 threads to hold things pretty well.
You can also counterbore the grips further.

A decent machine shop can make some, but expect some pretty expensive screws.

I'm going to break out the wood putty and forget about the shimming. Stoopid screws....
