I am currently building a new 1911 for carry...

i've been looking at the heinie and novak sights...
i want something quick on target, but able to make accurate shots out to 25yd...

i was thinking about going with either the Heinie slantpro (no inserts or dots) or the Novak Lo mount (no inserts or dots) and a Novak Tritium Dot front sight...

does anyone know how wide the Novak rear sight slot is? i know the heinies are 1/8"? what about the front sight blade with?

has anyone ever used the Novak Ghost sights or their tritium bars?

The Novak Ghost Ring sight is not going to be the best sight for accuracy.  Too much space on either side of the front sight will cause horizontal stringing.

Of the two, I'd prefer the Heinie because of the superior rear sight blade.  Of course then, you're stuck with a Heinie cut, which limits your options.

If it were me, I'd get a Novak cut and put Yo-Bo Pro sights in there.  You get the uncluttered rear sight blade, while having a relatively snag-free profile and still retain the Novak cut, which is coming to be a defacto standard.

The rear notch on Novak's is .0125". Check with Brownells or Novak direct as they are now offering a rear sight with a wider notch. I think it is a .140", and they offer with or without dots. The standard front blade on Novak's and heinies is .0125". I agree with the other poster to stay with a Novak sight cut, as anything else will limit your options in the future if a sight change is needed.

I think Heinie has sights with a Novak cut to drop into pistols that came with Novaks.

Have a look at www.heinie.com/1911sights.php. The Number 365 should drop into the Novak cut, if it's a replacement for the Springfield Professional, which comes with Novaks. All of this is a bit silly though, when you could just call Sara and ask her.

I installed the Novak Wide Notch rear on my SA Loaded (Novak 3 dot nights from the factory), and *really* liked it.

so now my ideal setup is a plain black wide notch rear novak, and a novak tritium dot front :)

that's exactly the setup i am going with after having a chance to shoot both the heinie sights and the plain novaks this weekend...

my glock has novak trijicon sights... i like the rear sight profile for carry but i find the 3 dots too distracting and too much thinking is involved... for fast shooting i typically ignore the rear dots anyway and shoot better (go figure)...

thanks for all your help guys.

Has anyone tried the wilson nite eyes sights?
