| Does anybody know weither or not the Llama 1911 clone is an OK firearms for the price? I have found a Llama X1 for $325 and don't know much about the brand. Please help. |
Question answered. Avoid all NON-1911 knockoffs and do some research here to see if you are willing to invest X dollars on one of the quality, affordable 1911s available here. |
Could you reccomend a good quality "starter" 1911? Or at least a place where I may pick one up. |

If you want a "pure" 1911 experience, the baseline entry is the Springfield Armory USGI pistol, which is a no-frills military reproduction 1911A1, made by fairly reputable company. If you want a true example of what a better finished, better equipped commercial 1911 feels like, the Colt 1991 would be the base model to choose (although that is fairly pricey by comparison, and at that point you might as well kick in the extra couple of hundred and get their Series 70 Reproduction). Best typo ever... and I don't mean the mis-placed apostrophe |
| I just checked out the Springfield Armory version and I like. But according to Springfired there are no dealers within a 100 mile radius of me. I hold a FFL but in order for me to purchase one I have to go through a supplier and place a minimum order of $2K. That's alot of money to spend just to see if I like the way a 1911 style pistol feels. |
That's total crap. Call the gun stores and the pawn shops and ask about doing a transfer. SOMEONE should be willing to do one for you for $25, give or take 5-10. Then you take the model you want and find the place on the internet with the cheapest price possible. BUY that via creditcard and they will send it to your FFL holding gun/pawn shop. You fill out the paperwork, pay the transfer and once greenlighted, you walk out with a pistol that cost you less than buying it from your local store's counter. |
| If somebody handed me a Llama in the middle of a hot zone, I wouldn't throw it down and surrender, but I wouldn't pay money for one. One of its quirks is that it has a loaded chamber indicator -- a spring loaded bar at the top of the slide that sticks up when the chamber is loaded. You can't miss seeing it, because it's right in the middle of the sight picture. What the? |
If you are an FFL, just order an RIA from SARCO or Centerfire systems. It will work fine for an entry level model and I've heard few complaints about them for the money. They are not a Colt, but then again, what else is? |

Llama is junk, so is the Firestorm. Neither are 1911s, they are 1911 look alikes with some proprietary parts not compatible with true 1911s. If you want a bargain basement 1911 look at the Rock Island Arsenal. The people here that own them seem to be very happy with them. |
I don't own a Rock Island, but I did visit the booths of several distributors that sell them at Shot Show. They looked better then the Charles Daily version that used to be the basement 1911 years ago, and I even liked them better then the Taurus 1911. I have no real interest in them, but to echo Steve's comment, everyone I have met who owns one likes it. |
| OK. So I got to fire a buddy's 1911 today and I'm hooked. I love the feel, the balance, the action and the look. This has to be the smoothest firing weapon I have ever shot. So now I'm in the market for one. If anybody has one for sale let me know. I'd prefer to buy one from an FFL holder so the transaction is easier on my behalf, but beggers can't be choosers. Price rang will depend on the firearm itself. |
Oh my lawd I can't believe my eyes. SGB is recommending a RIA. ![]() Every newer Llama I ever saw working at the gunshop range was a jamatic peice of junk. I seen some old ones -- 1970's / 80's era ones that run and strangely enough there is some following of the older Llama's. |
