Am I  being spooked for no reason or should I call the dealer or SA?

I just bought a SA Loaded SS .45 ACP this past Saturday.

I broke the slide down to clean everything and also checked the frame. Shocked. Maybe.

The hole drilled on the left side of the slide for the slide stop had the mother of all burrs on the inside. It did not affect the slide operation (by hand), but it really looked ugly. The burr was about 1/4 in total length and about 1/16 in wide.

I got a small half round needle file and worked the edge a bit and the burr broke off. It looked ok after that. The slide cycles fine and there is nothing else that I can see or feel.

I'll take it to the range this Friday and see what happens.

Is this unuaual for SA or can it happen with any mfg? Doesn't say much for their quality control though. Aren't these supposed to be inspected?

Thanks

It's not uncommon to have slop, mistakes, and downright abominations with all the popular production pistols (and occasionally semi customs as well). Both myself and those I know have had to return 1911s from a few outfits for minor issues to complete repalcements.

It is quite irksome to pay some scratch to find such slop though, and that is why I am very discriminatory with my purchases.

While not at all uncommon it is more the exception than the rule in my experience.

I'm not a fan of SAs small bits but I will say that sounds unusual for them, they usually do a pretty good job finishing out holes and such, sounds like the burr rolled over when they drilled thru the frame and it was overlooked. I seriously doubt it hurt a thing and as it's SS it didn't even affect the finish.

Doesnt surprise me with the way they have been making M1A rifles.

That is exactly what happened.

Pulpsmack, there is no "slop" per se, except for that one burr. The fit is very good; no wobble. Even the barrel/bushing/slide fit is very good; perhaps .001 tolerance there. Elsewhere is very good. I'm happy with that. Just concerned about the QC.

Thanks everyone. I wish the quality is as good as this board.
