[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt Government Model 70

A friend of mine is offering to sell me his Colt Govt Model 70 for $550. Like-new condition with upgraded Millet sights, Packmeyer grips, and had a trigger job done. I don't know much about 1911's - what do you more experienced folks think?

I assume you mean "Series 70" and is it the new S70 re-production or the old Series 70 ? Also, 'like new" is VERY subjective; it can mean many different things to different people. Pics are a must. If it is as good as you say then $550 would be a steal but...

Thanks for the reply - yes, I do mean Series 70 and this one is not a new "reproduction", although I admit I didn't know there were reporductions out there. The guy who is offering it is a good and trusted friend and a fairly serious shooter and collector. This Series 70 is one of three that he owns.

I agree that "like new" is very subjective and to my eye what it means is no blemishes, sharp bore, no visible wear anywhere, and proper functioning (as far as can be told prior to range testing, which is my next step). Based on your answer and a little bit of websurfing research, this looks like a good deal.
