It's a compact high cap 1911

What else do you want to know?

Well, I can tell you that I have one and love it. Shoots great.

I don't see the logic in at all, but YMMV.

If you want a weapon for CCW you don't get a short, fat sidearm that profiles like a brick. What's more, 13 rounds of 230 gr housed in the gun, plus all-steel construction makes for the the weight of a brick to complement the way it profiles.

In addition to that the "officer" size (or shorter) is a real compromise to reliability. As such, if you insist on carrying a ridiculously heavy, poorly concealed CCW, you are better off going with the P-13 or P-14.

In conclusion, since they are poorly concealed and their larger cousins offer about the same amount of concealability with more relaibility and shootability properties, It makes no sense whatsoever to waste a penny on a P-12, a NightHawg, RoadHawg, SlobonmyHawg or whatever stupid name they call those ugly abortions of theirs. If you want a CCW try any 1911 in single-stack configuration for weight and profile. If you want a sidearm with lots of bullets independent of how it conceals, get a P-13 or P-14.

Thanks peesmack, at least you didn't beat around the bush.

I'm asking because I just bought one, and would like suggestions for holsters, what ammo feeds better than others, esp. defensive ammo, and also has anyone refinished/duracoated theirs?  Thats my next project.

Thanks

I suppose I should have read between the lines and understood any and all information to mean "please leave remarks germane to owning one since I just bought one"? Cleary my $.02 is of no use to you since you bought one, but if you had been more specific and actually asked for the proper sort of information your feathers wouldn't be ruffled, and my time wouldn't have been wasted.

Like I said from the get go: YMMV. That said, there is a very logical reason why people who CCW don't carry Para widebodies of any kind, and widebodies smaller than P-13s are not very popular sellers.

Are the sights compatable with regular 1911 sites?  Good place to buy replacement grips?  How about a new recoil spring?

and peesmack, my feathers aren't ruffled, I was just surprised by the, um, passion you seem to have against the p12.  Nothing wrong with an opinion, it was obvious that you don't think its the gun for you.  Thats fine!  Thats why there are so many flavors

Hell, I guess some folks are just WAAAY too important around here to be bothered with questions about things other than what they're interested in. Shit... somebody might waste such an important persons time. Wish I was so cool and important.

moximouse... You'll enjoy your P12. I guess some folks who carry single stack pistols just have something akin to "penis envy"... what with carrying such a small "payload" so to speak.

pulpsmack doesn't need me to speak for him, but the original poster asked opinions about them and was given one. Just because he didn't like what was said doesn't mean it couldn't be correct. I, for one, agree with the opinion given.

There's a reason Para is already grouped in with wonderful manufacturers like the Philipine guns. My sole experience is with a coworkers P.14 that he bought for competition. He's had it over two years and sunk almost as much money into it as he paid for it initially, and still can't compete with it. He can't get it to run well enough to be comfortable taking it to a match.

This is the tech boards. If you can't handle being told the truth and honest opinions, then maybe you should head over to GD.

I merely used sarcasm about how strong his opinion was..

I love how everyone so many people in the tech forums get their panties in bunches.

"a short, fat firearm that conceals like a brick"?

Maybe if you are wearing a skintight t-shirt, but no more so than a Beretta or a HiPower and I've never had any trouble concealing those either. My P12 LDA conceals just fine in an IWB rig underneath a light vest in cooler weather or under a Hawaiian shirt in warmer weather. It IS heavy. Otherwise, it is very reliable and comfortable to shoot.
